I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

    1. Every morning when I step through the front doors of Kennedy Catholic High School, I am greeted with a smile, whether it be from a friend passing by or a staff member standing in the hallway. A welcoming gesture, even as simple as a “Good morning,” always reassures me that I am appreciated in my school community. Throughout my two years attending Kennedy Catholic, I learned the importance of solidarity and having a supportive community. My worldview closely resembles the Biblical Worldview described in the Charry text, but by no means is anywhere near where it could be. My Christian character will continue to develop and mature throughout my life as I continue to study the scriptures, commune with God in prayer, continually ask for repentance, and forgiving those who have showed transgressions toward me. L. Gregory Jones states, “Christian living requires a willingness to inquire after the God of Jesus Christ, an inquiry which shapes us a people of repentance and forgiveness” (Charry, 2000, p. 204). Repentance and forgiveness are two aspects of the Christian walk that I struggle with. There are many times that I get so busy with life that I forget to prayerfully repent…

I did not realize what was happening until after the warm colored leaves had disappeared beneath the snow, quite like my old self had disappeared beneath my new self. It was December and, I had always hated the winter months. That winter was supposed to bring record-breaking cold weather, and living in northern Illinois meant frostbite galore. All I did those days was sit in a box (I’ve called school) for eight hours, and get home with eight more hours of homework. At least I had homework to get my mind off of it, at least for a little while I could still be sane.…

Attending Catholic school influenced my views of religion. St. Raphael Catholic School is composed predominantly of students of the Catholic faith, although non-Catholic students are accepted. So why did I go there? My parents felt a private school would be the best fit because of the limited number of students, enabling me to have more one on one time with my teachers. They did not care as to what denomination the private school was as long as it was private and had good credibility.…

At first, I disliked the testimony of my life. I thought my life was boring; that the only inspiring testimonies were the ones where somebody went from being at rock bottom to being on fire for Christ. I vividly remember the night my freshman year of college when I had boldly beseeched God to do something dramatic and even terrible to my life, to break me down so that it would be obvious that He was the one who was building me back up. Little did I know that God can use anybody and everybody for his glory, no matter what their story is like. I grew up on a dairy farm outside of Chambers, Nebraska.…
