The reason I have chosen to go a different route with my career is because I have found my calling helping people with disabilities and have choose to get my certificate for a Developmental Disability Specialist (which included courses: PSY 101, PSY 243, PSY 249, PSY 241, PSY 242, PSY 244).My cousin was born with cerebral palsy and has been in a wheel chair from day one. He and I connect so well and he is the reason for my drive and determination to become a certified DDS and work with people like him and to better connect with him as well. …show more content…

The interview helped me know that if I were to change my mind about becoming a dietitian I would want to do sports/athlete nutrition or fitness and wellness that I mentioned earlier because I am really into health and fitness. Between my sophomore and junior year in highschool I received two concussions while cheering on my school's varsity squad. Three months after my last concussion I was experiencing excruciating headaches, light sensitivity, memory issues, persistent fatigue, and struggles with my school work. Everyday tasks like walking up the stairs, waking up on time, and remembering the route to school became substantial hurdles. Anxious, my mother decided to take me to see a neurologist. I went through multiple MRI’s, CT scans, and X-Rays to determine the condition of my neck and brain tissues, all of which returned normal.…

When President Obama launched the Young African Leaders Initiative in 2010 to support the emerging generation of African leaders, this was to educate us to change Africa. I believe this Professional Development Experience is intended to give Fellows practical training and the opportunity to learn transferable skills, and apply theories learned in civic leadership classes in the real-world setting. As a leader, I seek to participate actively and productively in the field of global health leadership and health policy and to fill a strategic position in a multinational institution working on promoting health, particularly in Africa.…

In the Human Services field I am very passionate about working with people in the deaf culture. I am passionate about working with this population because I know American Sign Language and I feel a connection to the community. Learning ASL took a long time and allowed me to be engaged in many events in the deaf community. I believe people in this population are not given nearly as much attention or opportunities as they should be. The lack of equal access to education, jobs, and basic interactions that hearing people take for granted is not fair and puts this population at a disadvantage therefore making it important for people to want to work with this group of people.…

I knew from a young age that I wanted to eventually have a career which positively impacted the individual. When I was six years old, I wanted to be a window washer so I could give people the joy of being able to look outside. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a speech-language pathologist in order to help people exercise their right to speak. I have always observed that I am not the type of person who functions well in an inactive environment. I learn best by doing, and I cannot sit still and watch someone else do it for me.…

She shared many of the safety procedures with me the first thing that is noticed when entering in to the school there is a key pad in the front entrance that a code has to be entered for the door to unlock the floor is tile and there are runner mats for when the weather is bad so students and parents don't have to walk on wet tile. Sheryl said they have fire evacuation, severe weather/tornado procedure and lock down procedures in place that all employees have been trained on as well as they do drills on a monthly basis to keep the students aware of the proper procedure. For the fire evaluation students are required to line up walk outside along the playground fence and line up along the back of the fence and stay there as their teacher calls attendance to make sure all students are accounted for once they are the teacher holds up a green card showing all are safe and accounted for, there is also a white card with a red cross showing paramedics are needed or a red card, meaning not all are…

The interview commenced with an initiation which included greeting the client, gaining informed consent and an overview of how the session would run. In the future I must remember to enquire about the clients past history of visiting a nutritionist and ensure my limitations are clear.…
