Personal Narrative: My Camping Experience At 4-H.

Decent Essays
4-H has played a large role in creating who I am today. I am a first generation camper for my family, so my older friends were the people to bring me into 4-H. They welcomed me and many others into the program with open arms and created an accepting environment for those that wanted to join. When I joined, I had no idea of the impact this club in Madison would take on my life.
My first camping experience is something I will never forget. I had no prior knowledge of how camp worked before that week, so my first council circle was a perfect mix of traumatizing and fun. Much like what anyone thinks during their first Council Circle, I thought I had joined a cult. Despite being fearful of entering a cult, I had continued to have fun in all of

Over summer I went with some friends to the Johnson Shut-ins in Missouri. It was the first time I went camping in years and it was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever been on. It started with the drive which was about two and a half hours through isolated roads which eventually got kind of creepy because we were in the middle of nowhere, every house had confederate flags posted, and we were running out of gas. We finally found the place and found our campground and we wanted to find out what the shut-ins were exactly. It was on the other side of the campground…

I consider Camp Kanata a second home, I worked my first full summer as a camp counselor after junior year. That summer was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life; I learned, laughed, and cried everyday, I also created amazing friendships. Yet when asked about what made my summer so spectacular a few months later, I had little to say, my mind was blank. I cannot remember what happened a week ago, let alone what happened months and years ago. The number of special memories and moments I have forgotten about is unquantifiable.…

Through those activities there were some kids who were struggling at some activities. I motivated them to keep pushing on, giving them pointers on how to complete the activity. I felt connection to the campers within a week. For example even though I didn’t do a challenge myself, I still felt accomplished by helping out the campers to complete the activity. This experience taught me to trust people who I never meet before.…

4-H, I learned responsibility not only for myself but to accomplish the task at hand, e.g. taking care, washing, cleaning pens/stalls for the animals at the fair. I may sound a bit redundant, but like in the FFA you will make the constant of friends and competition, and this friendly competition is what makes it fun to be in organizations like 4-H. I am currently the Secretary of the Rural Raiders 4-H club in Foster County, and I am expected to help record membership, attendance, and the meetings for my club. This last experience was an extension to responsibility, and responsibility is a lesson that nobody will not get enough of whether it is direct or implied. Some of todays kids do not know responsibility because they do not have the agriculture…

For the past 6 years of my life, I have gone to a sleepaway camp in Burnet, TX called Camp Longhorn Inks Lake. There are many enjoyable traditions at Camp Longhorn. Some of the\ traditions are the mile swim, campfire lighter, early bird, fun day, frog girl day, and marine/marina mud. Although these traditions are great fun, but none of them can compare to the most memorable tradition at Camp Longhorn, Church Mountain. Church Mountain is my favorite tradition at Camp Longhorn and my life has been infinitely changed by the experiences I have had up there.…

As a kid I never went to summer camps or stayed at a friends house for an extended period of time. I had friends in Cub Scouts but I never joined. But around the third grade, I decided I wanted to join the Cub Scouts. I started Cub Scouts during the fifth grade, so I only had one year as a Cub Scout until I would crossover into becoming a Boy Scout. During both my time in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, I met some of my closest friends.…

    Soccer Camp Narrative

Soccer camp was a great, but terrifying experience for me. Just as I was around eight years old and starting soccer, my mom wanted to get me off her hands, so she thought that it would be a good idea to send me off to soccer camp. The entire thing lasted a week, and you had to wake up early, and leave around 3:00. It was painful, and to make it even worse the sun seemed to scorch your back, so at break time everyone hid underneath the bleachers, away from the sun, in hopes of cooling off. At soccer camp it seemed like I was the youngest one.…
