Personal Narrative: My Brother Titled His First Car

It had only been a week since I left the Secretary of State with the teenage triumph of my driver’s license. The urge to drive to school was irresistible, despite my brother adamantly opposing the prospect of me driving his car. Just once wouldn’t hurt!

In the ensuing days, the accident replayed in my head non-stop, forcing me to think how it could have been prevented. If I had listened to my brother. I would not have to have this conversation - about how I totaled his first car.

Facing him was difficult, but had to be done. And that discussion

The Thrill in the Kill…….And What it Does After Elham I. 8-1 I’m a deadbeat. There is no way to sugarcoat it (and frankly, I don’t want to). Being as profound and logical as I am, I decided to do something aside from my part-job at a convenience store: rob a bank. I probably would have gotten myself killed, but hey, no more having to reject minors for alcohol, right?…

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

Driving is not easy. It takes skill, knowledge, and preparation. When learning how to drive, there are three main objectives, the driver must know how to operate the car, must follow the directions and rules of driving, but also must acknowledge that others may not follow these same rules of driving. In a letter, written by Dave Barry, about this topic, it demonstrates how he decided to prepare his daughter for life on the road. Dave Barry’s letter, “A Floriduh driver’s guide for my teen with a learner’s permit,” is a high level comedy that uses sarcasm and hyperboles to convey the universal truth to drive defensively.…

Just like that my life flashed before my eyes,I could feel the sharp pain of the 9mm bullet shred my skin like it was nothing,I screamed out words that would not of been polite to anyone's ears. Every teen has to experience those rites of passages that transition them from being a kid to being an adult. The most common ones are going on a first date, getting their first job, or that special first kiss with that significant other that can never be forgotten. However, the king of all kings, the scariest, yet greatest rite of passage that we all must endure is of course, obtaining that oh so important drivers license. Every teenager has that unforgettable tale about the time that they got their drivers license and I have to say, mine is definitely a tale to tell. After a year and a half of countless driving lessons, enough tears to fill the ocean, two minor accidents, and failed first attempt, your girl was finally licensed.…

On September 9th, 2016 I was a passenger in rear-end car accident. At the young age of seventeen, I was ignorant, rebellious and negligent. At this time, I honestly believed that I knew it all and was always in the right; I would ignore anyone trying to guide me towards the right path or give me advice. As in the short story “Rain of Fire” by Evan Thomas, I would have never expected that a regular day could end up in such catastrophe. I learned not to trust those whom I have not gotten to know well enough.…

The lead up to my birthday was spent with me constantly reminding my parents about acquiring a driver’s permit, but was almost always shot down and told that I would not be getting it anytime soon. In my parent’s eyes, I was too much of a distraction while they drove, always showing them the latest picture on social media or changing the radio station and not actually paying attention to their “useful” tips while on the road. “How was it my fault for showing them a funny picture or not listening to them?” , I thought to myself.…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…

This didn’t happen just once during my given hour of driving time; but it occurred multiple times and made me feel as though I was not ready to start driving. I just wanted to be back in the comfort of my home. My dreams of becoming a driver at 16 and buying my own Range Rover at the age of 17 were crushed.…
