On the same day the Backstreet Boys sold approximately 765,000 concert tickets. An earthquake hit Turkey that same day which hit a death toll of more than 4,000 people. The Columbine High School students returned to classes that same day for the first time since the shooting massacre that occurred four months prior, but two swastikas were found drawn in a girls’ restroom. Also that day the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed a concert in Spodek, Katowice, Poland. Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer, was announced as prime minister of Russia as well. A massacre occurred in Beni Ounif, Béchar Province, Algeria near the Moroccan Border. Guerillas had stopped a bus at a fake roadblock and killed around 29 people, which caused a strain and tensions between Algeria and Morocco. The national anthem of Japan was played that same day for the first time since World War 2 in honor of the country’s war dead. Most of these events that occurred around the time of my birth were important in their own varying ways, as was my
