My Backstory of Reading and Writing
My earliest memory of writing is of when I started to learn the alphabet in Kindergarten. My first teacher was Mrs. Crowley, I remember writing all of the letters, singing the alphabet and nursery rhymes, and learning to spell my name. I enjoyed the process of learning and finding out new fun facts. I didn’t know it then but learning how to read and write began the foundation of who I am today. I love to read and I wouldn’t be able too if it weren’t for learning the basics of writing.
I remember the first time I walked into the school library at South Forrest Attendance Center. It was very quiet so quiet that you could hear a pinsel drop in the hallway, which reminded me of church like the library was a sacred place you had to respect. The librarian's name was Mrs.Smith, she seemed nice but I knew if I ever lost a book I would be in deep trouble. I loved the smell of old books. The process of picking out a book was fun and the first book I picked out was Juddy B. Jones, however I didn’t really find it that interesting but I still loved the library.
However I didn’t alway love reading. When I was in the

Homework almost every night, reading Night by Elie Wiesel in class and giving a proper analysis of the book and even watching videos to analysis those as well. My teacher pushed us but she made the class work fun with things like making board games and painting ceiling tiles. It was the best and worst class of the day. One of my other challenging experiences was the process of creating a seven page research paper and it was extremely long and drawn out. Creating the thesis and the introduction was the most difficult part of the essay for me. She taught us true life skills. However I did have another english teacher who would give assignments and not grade them. I think not getting any feedback on my work was the worst thing for

I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

Every week we had to read one chapter to and then every Friday she tested us on the reading. Sometimes we had to write summaries for the chapter and sometimes we had to answer a question. This helped students learn the vocabulary and it helped me process what I was reading. She was able to make the subject relatable and interesting. Even though we were reading for the class we also had to write our responses so she also made writing more interesting.…

The first thing I would like to state is that remembering where I wrote my reading logs was the hardest thing to do. As I was looking at my reading log I would see how uneven the numbers would very. Like one week I would read around 57 pages but the next only 33. So as I looked back in my books, I realized that when I get bored with the book I tend to just skim read. But when I read a part I really like I will read it over three times to soak up the information.…

I think the first time I actually started taking writing seriously in about the third grade when we went a on field trip to a fossil exhibit and then had to write a paper over what we did and what we learned while we were there and then we also had to write a story from a fossil person 's point of view. I had a lot of fun with that story because it allowed me to write whatever came to mind and have fun with the story. Though with loving to write about anything, I first had to fix my writing because I would run on sentences that needed to end and further expand onto another sentence of what I was going to say. I had a lot of trouble learning when and where to end sentences and still get everything I wanted to say to make sense because from a very young age I’ve always been hard on myself to make sure my writing was good enough and anything I’ve ever overcome in life was good enough. I hate letting people down and disappointing them.…

My writing journey and, in a way, my academic adventure as a whole, began with a single poem. I had absolutely no confidence in my writing. The first time I submitted a poem in school, I was petrified. I had written and discarded about ten poems before I finally settled on one for my College Credit Plus literature class. I clicked submit with hands trembling and heart racing, absolutely convinced it was horrible.…

I remember my kindergarten days, when most of class time consisted of learning phonics in class. I recall doing this as the whole class repeating the sounds of letters in unison. We would all go “st, st, st” as we learned how different sounds came together. The alphabet also started becoming relevant in kindergarten. A fair amount of time was spent tracing letters of the alphabet and remembering how to scribe each one.…

A significant event in my life as a reader and a writer was when I attended an American elementary school in Miami, Florida. In July of 2005, my family of 6 moved to the United States and a month later I was enrolled in Rockway Elementary School. I recall the small, pink classroom and the chipped tables were joined in groups of four. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Paris was a 300 lbs, blonde, smelly, American lady which oddly spoke Spanish. Every morning we had to write a journal and the room would be super quiet and the only sound was the scribbling of pencils on paper.…

Bullets of sweat started running down my face as it is my turn to read a page from a book out loud to the class. Although the book was a simple elementary level book, to me it had the complexity of Shakespeare as I looked down at the words. For many kids my age reading skills seemed to come naturally to them, they could read through pages and pages without the slightest flaw. This made me question if there was something wrong with me or if I would ever be able to read as elegantly as others seemed too. If I wanted to be like the other kids it was going to take a lot of hard work and dedication on my part, so over the summer of fourth and fifth grade I did nothing but eat and breathe books.…

I failed everyone I wrote, and pop quizzes meant I better of spark noted the story or I wasn’t going to pass. I constantly worked to improve the content of my papers. I would work to try and remove wordiness and pick the correct words. For example I was reviewing my own paper and found this “spear of influence” instead of “sphere of influence”. I learned a lot of study habits and work ethic in her class, but not a lot of English.…
