For me, while classroom lectures remain incredibly enjoyable, the most genuine excitement about learning appears when I apply my knowledge to assist with a real-world problem. I most recently experienced this during my internship in a Biomedical Engineering lab at the University of Delaware, where I developed an accurate automatic confluent cell quantification program. I eagerly approached the problem, hoping that I could accomplish the task that the lab group entrusted to me. During the first week, I devoured hundreds of pages describing various MATLAB techniques and voraciously watched an abundance of videos, testing methods ranging from watershed transforms to edge detection. Imagine being a college student and you spend most of your summers working on a factory floor. Now think about the real-life lessons you would learn from the factory floor. The early mornings, the long hours for low pay, the people that work there for most of their lives, and the possibility of the job itself not existing due to overseas relocation. Now all these are life lessons that are slowly teaching you to appreciate being a college student.…

This challenge can be overcome by figuring out what sparks a student’s interest. For example in LASSO tutoring I would often ask what students favorite sport was or what does the student want to do once the graduate in order to find areas the student in already encaged. By using examples from these areas to explain a concept I am able to channel that interest in basketball to now be projected onto photosynthesis for example. A student that is engaged in the material, and can understand how it is beneficial to their goals in life will be able to learn more material at a higher rate. This drive can easily any obstacle in the student’s…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…
