I had just entered my junior year in high school and was back to playing football, my grades were good so far and my A.D.D. medication was helping me a lot. Zach and I had just arrived at the union school for a junior varsity game against Oceanside high school, we geared up and got ready for the game. I started the game at quarterback and the game wasn't going well for us, which didn't come as a surprise because jv games are never enjoyable. I took the snap and rolled out to the left side of the field, no one was open so I tucked the ball under my arm and started to run up field, I had room to move, suddenly a linebacker running at me from my side started to shorten up his steps and set himself for a tackle, he tackled low but I…

Its Saturday morning and we’re leaving for Virginia. I am not looking forward to going and staying in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people. And I’m also not too excited about being all “churchy” and religious for an entire week. We are riding vans painted with the words “Honk for Jesus” “Jesus loves you” and “ASP bound Kzoo Michigan”. I am about as religious as a dead rock.…

Standing in the middle of the hall, looking at every new face makes me feel so lost. No one was there for me to turn to or talk to. This was not what I expected when coming to Stanly Early College. At that time, I was only fourteen years old with no friends at Stanly Early College, which made me feel very out of place. It made me regret choosing Stanly Early College because at first I thought I would get to know different people, but I only ended up being alone.…

However, this has not always been the case. While college attendance is at an all time high (“College Enrollment and Work Activity of 2016 High School Graduates”), the portion of our population living in the upper class has increased by 50 percent since 1971, and the portion living in the lower class has increased 16 percent in that same time period. Consequently, wealth disparity has made it difficult for the lower classes of Americans to achieve the level of success that the highest class has. In addition, the share of aggregate income held by the upper class has increased from 29 percent to 49 percent.(“The American Middle Class Is Losing Ground”) This means that the richest portion of the population possesses nearly half of the wealth,…
