Personal Narrative: My Ambition Of The National Honor Society

Improved Essays
The world is too vast to be concerned only with what goes on in your immediate circle. There is too much to learn about different ways of life, too much to experience, too much to understand. I am unconventional in my interests, aspirations, and studies; I am invigorated by nearly every academic subject, by world cultures, by sports, by religions, by the arts. I have used the first seventeen years of my life in an attempt to satiate my world curiosity, from its fundamental laws to the rudimentary values prevalent in even the most untouched cultures. Socially, I have friends in all the conventional high school cliques, whether it be the jocks, the nerds, the popular kids, the “bad-boys”, the performers, you name it, I have friends within it. While I am a member of many different groups, I do not identify with one in particular. Instead, being a participant in a multitude of communities has only helped me to understand the variations of people, and has improved my character.

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

Stumbling upon this quote freshman year, and since then, the quote has deeply ingrained itself in my brain-- the significant effects of the quote to my life unforeseen at the time. Ayn Rand, a Russian novelist, once stated, “The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.” As my eyes brushed upon every word, it resonated with me. The quote by the novelist are words I hold with the highest of regards, and undoubtedly, I now apply it to everyday life, notably in decision making.
