Personal Narrative: My Almost Lost In Nursing School

Improved Essays
Earlier this week I contemplated emailing you because of school right now; I am almost lost in nursing school right now. Last semester I had my first Nursing class and it went well I guess, it was mostly book material I could memorize and regurgitate like most school material. This semester however is completely different. I am currently learning how to apply all of this knowledge through skill simulations and critical thinking. This is completely different compared to the previous schooling; so I am having a tough time adjusting. I do not want to give up on school but going into the Marines or Army has been very appealing the last few weeks. I talked to my nursing professors about my concerns and they showed me some tough love because they

This week I had the opportunity to work with Paula, who was a breaker nurse. Since she was breaking, I had a chance to work with the men and women side. To be honest, I felt more comfortable being on the women's side. In fact, I was actually not nervous being on the floor that I felt comfortable joining a bracelet activity where I bonded with Mele and John. I thought it was a calming activity where all your worries seem to disappear and all you think about is what color to choose next.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

The person I decided to interview was Kristen McKenna, a registered nurse. I interviewed her over the phone since she resides in Maryland. I chose to interview her since she has the profession that resembled a physician assistant the most in comparison to others I could have contacted, plus I know her parents fairly well and knew I could easily get an interview with her. All of my contacts live in other states so unfortunately it was not possible for me to schedule a meeting with any of them. The specific questions I prepared were essentially the ones that were provided in the “Possible Questions to Ask During the Information Interview” section.…

This leads to my story of associate degree RN school. I thought that LPN school was hard working as a CNA; however, RN school was a completely different beast to conquer because I worked twelve hour night shifts three days a week, attended school during the day and refused to give up my position as an LPN because those people I had fallen in love with relied on me to be there for them. I know now, that I had more options. But, once again, I kept my sights set and made it out.…

I admired the nurse that took care of my aunt up to this day and hold them in high respect.
