Personal Narrative: My Air Conditioning Home

Improved Essays
The first thing I felt when I walked out of the cold air conditioning house was the scorching warmth of Florida. Even during the afternoon its scorching. But, I'm a good granddaughter and I suffered through it to take family pictures. It was the first day in Florida and we needed to take the family photos at the beach. Unlike all the other families there taking pictures there we were not matching.

We did have my mom who was the queen of taking photos. By the third or fourth photo my mom finally gave up and let us be free from the captivity of the poses she had us in. My cousins were with us in Florida and they are the type of counis who always wants to do something fun. After we took the picture, we walk along the beaches sand line and looked for crabs with our flashlights. After a 10 minutes of bending my backing walking around looking like a crazy person, I was going to give up. But all of sudden my cousins shouted,” I found a CRAB,” and nearly broke my eardrum. We all ran up to him see what was in his hand. The tiniest crab Ive ever seen was in his hand, you could barely call it a crab. He was so proud of himself, I couldn't make fun of him, ok, so I did make fun of him for a little bit but how couldn't you.

The water was the amazing to look at because you can see the different levels of blue in the water. We were making our game plan on how to get into the water, without getting knocked over by the big blue waves crashing towards you or not getting stung by the blue, small, jellyfishes that were all over the

While up in Washington D.C, I had packed shorts, tank tops and typical warm weather clothing due to the fact it had been summer, and those are typically hot in Florida. Walking through the outside areas of Fair Fax County at night I had found that during the day it is almost 90 degrees during the day and low 60s in the night time. I was flabbergasted, how could it be this cold in the summer…

This picture expresses every single one of my family member’s personality. This picture was taken at Lake Latoka in Minnesota. We had such a great time there, although my Grandma sold our cabin a couple years ago. I still remember the crisp waves lapping up against the dock. The sound was so lulling and peaceful that you didn’t have trouble getting to sleep.…

This wave has a tint of blue that is approaching that of a baby blue. By doing this the importance of the wave is highlighted. Besides this, some of the faces of the rocks upon which the wave is crashing are in a lighter tint than the rest of the rocks that are shaded. This serves to immediately draw the viewer’s eye from the wave into the rocks. For how much emphasis is on this wave that is crashing into the rocks, I think there is more meaning then to just show the power of the ocean.…

Imagine a place where everywhere you look, you see beauty, everywhere you smell is crisp fresh air. Everywhere surrounding you are ginormous mountains with snow slowly melting and one huge blue body of water. There are trees all over the place, and everywhere you look you see nature and all of God’s creations. This fascinating place is Lake Tahoe, in Nevada. Looking up meekly at the sun shining through a grimy window, Ava realized she was in a cellar, somewhere, but she did not know where. What she did know is that she woke a day earlier, handcuffed to the rusty iron radiator that was anchored to the basement wall, but for how long she could not tell. For the entire next day, her screams for help went unheeded, as she sat on the cold basement floor, not only famished and dehydrated, but also mostly exposed and petrified. Adjusting the petite negligée she wore, she attempted to shield her expose skin from touching the frigid cement floor in an attempt to remain warm. All the while her left hand remained intractably cuffed to the radiator a little over a half meter off the ground.…

Moving to Orlando from Miami was a huge culture shock to me. Being from the city where people rarely sleep and restaurants/convenience stores are open 24/7 I had a bit of difficulty understanding why the Walgreens around the corner was closing at 12:00 a.m. As I adjusted to what I thought was a drastic change Orlando decided that it wanted to teach me a bit about nature. My time here has pushed me out of my shell and made me a bit more outdoorsy.…

I saw only darkness, save the faint glow of lava rocks in a small hole dug in front of me. I breathe in what should be steaming hot air, but it is dry, yet so hot. Even growing up in Tucson where the summer heat can reach 110 degrees, I’ve never experienced something quite like this. I wished I was playing out in that summer heat, this felt like I was being cooked in an oven. I breathe in again, more dry air.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

Throughout my life, I have been the victim of several burglaries. At the age of seven, someone, in broad daylight, broke into our house and shot my dad in the chin. I was displaced to my aunt's house for weeks and missed most of my 1st grade year. When I was seventeen, I walked in on my home being robbed by some local kids. They were upstairs when I came into the house and escaped through a window, but the idea that I could have come home earlier still haunts me.…

Bernie Sanders said, “Every day we are paying more for energy than we should due to poor insulation, inefficient lights, appliances, and heating and cooling equipment - money we could save by investing in energy efficiency”. My family’s pre-home energy bill correlates to what Mr. Sanders was saying. They were paying more than they had to due to poorly conserving energy. My FPL bill prior to this project was $210.63, which was normal since it was the summer and the air conditioning unit was always on. The plan initially was that a lot of sacrifices were going to have to be made to lower the bill.…

They’re just waves crashing but the ways the different shades of blue fade into each other reveal a million different stories: there’s the sea during a storm, telling of sunken ships and roaring wind; the winter sea, with its tales of loneliness and forgotten shells; the sea on a summer day of America’s East Coast, where you can almost hear the old rock ballads playing from a car's stereo. And then the underwater shots, which, I’ll admit, are my forte. As expected, people start getting excited and asking questions.
“How did you get so close to the dolphins?”
“Weren’t you scared of the red lionfish?”…
