It felt as if I snapped out of a trance, overcome with a sudden sense of reality. I was silently ushered out of the room as the judges began the next audition. The next person was singing pretty loudly, but all of my senses were cut off as my inner senses of elation and relief took hold of me.
It is a day I will never forget. I got the phone call; I made it! That moment will forever signify the birth of my passion for singing and my journey to continue singing in the choir for the remainder of my junior high school career. Ever since then, singing has become my go-to source of comfort, happiness, and consolation. After my grandfather’s death, I chose to find solace in the only thing that had the ability to lift me from my state of perpetual sadness and depression. In the end, singing allowed to me to look at the world holistically, perceiving the ups and downs of life as stepping stones to my closure.
When I got to high school, I set out to start a choir of my own, determined to share my love for singing with the rest of my school. To this day, that flyer sits on my desk as a constant reminder of the day that shaped my drive and perspective on life as a
