Personal Narrative: My Adoption

Decent Essays
My parents put me up for adoption when I was just a baby, because they were not ready for a kid let alone a baby. About ten years later an elderly couple came and adopted me. I didn’t think much about it, honestly I was just happy to get out of the orphanage. I was put in many different foster homes throughout my life, but none of them ever felt right. The woman’s name was Nancy and the man’s name was Tim. When I first got there they showed me my room and it had been if they had been waiting for me my whole life. Surrounded by a team of nurses, one doctor, and what seemed to be a grouping of blinding lights, I had a peculiar moment of serenity. I can’t quite explain whether it was the epidural or the fact that for twelve hours my body was engulfed by excruciatingly painful contractions which seemed to be attacking me in a sporadic manner, but in that one moment everything was perfect. Somehow I just let go off every single fear I had, I just remembered that in any moment there would be an extraordinary occurrence. Although a natural part in many women’s lives, since the beginning of time, it was a phenomenon in my life.…

With my heart about to beat out of my chest, I make my way down the long narrow hallway that takes me to the courtroom where my family is waiting . As I stand in front of the tall wooden doors that separate me from the court room, I cant help but wonder what all could go wrong. Does my step dad really want to adopt me? Will the judge grant the adoption?…

I am the oldest child. I have two younger siblings who I love unconditionally, but life as the oldest child is not the picnic most people think it is. I know this probably sounds cliché, becoming who I am because of my siblings, but it is the truth without them I would not be the person I am today. When I was four years old my mother became pregnant with my sister. My sister, Madison was born seven months before I turned five.…

My life was turned upside down at the age of four. Child Protective Services (CPS) took me, my older brother, Kyle who was 6, and my younger sister, Sasha who was 6 months old, from my mother and placed us into foster care. They took us because neither my mother, nor my father was “fit” to care for us. CPS decided our parents were not “fit” because they were called out to investigate our living situation 3 times. Luckily we all had a family that loved us, and none of us were adopted by strangers.…
