Adaptation
Adaptation is when an individual is growing to process and is adjusting to the world around them, creating new schemas (Piaget, 1936). A nephew of mine is having new experiences at the moment, for example when he first saw a toy truck, it was not until I showed him that by moving the truck the wheels’ spin. Thus stimulating and intriguing him to want to have and play with the truck. Another example is when we took him to see sand at the beach. My nephew stared at the sand until my brother started to build the sand up, while stimulated him to copy and do the same, again creating a new schema.
Assimilation
Assimilation occurs when a new experience doesn’t associate nor link to an old schema (Lunay, 2017).
