Over the years I became involved with extracurricular activities which led to my primary interest I had developed in technology and the sciences. As a freshman I joined the Students with Future Interests in Technology Club, Spanish Club, and Robotics Club. These clubs stayed with me till I graduated high school and I have loved them ever since I got involved in them.…

Michael Jordan once said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” Being born to two immigrants, who have never completed college, and growing up in a low-income family of six individuals, I have faced nothing but a myriad of obstacles in my life. Although at times I have struggled to overcome these challenges, I have always persevered and pushed past each one with my determination to be the best I can be, which has matured me into the young adult I am today.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

The college application process was a stressful one. Having to worry about different deadlines for different pieces of paperwork for different schools, all while attending eight hours of school every day got to be a bit overwhelming. During this time I was repeatedly putting my accomplishments over the past several years on applications, but never during this time did I ever question how I came to point I was at. I was so caught up in things that I had done, neglecting how I had done them, or what forces had played a part in my completion of them. The most notable of all my ignorance however was that I did not realize how the journey towards each and every one of my accomplishments had affected me and helped guide me to where I was at this…
