An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

During the college search process, I've learned that I am a take-charge person. Before applying to college I did not have an older sibling or parent telling me what to do, therefore I had to figure everything out myself; which included family trips to visit colleges, the application process, and countless meetings that I made with my counselor to make sure I was on track. A personal tradition that my family has is that every Sunday morning my father cooks all of us pancakes and we sit and eat together before we go to church. Although having pancakes every week may seem like it would get old, it has the opposite effect, and I look forward to the quality time with my family every week.…

My decision to attend HACC was due to financial needs. Originally, my educational plan was to attend Penn State Harrisburg as a double major in Political Science and Psychology, to which I have already been accepted. My goal is to transfer or graduate from HACC without having accumulated debt so that my time at Penn State Harrisburg will go smoothly and be most worthwhile. I feel fervent that I have made the best decision for my current life situation.…
