Personal Narrative: My 2015-2016 Hockey Game

Improved Essays
We lost every game. That was hard for not only me, but for the whole team. It was stressful, considering we were a great team the season before. It hurt me in a big way, but it made me stronger in an even bigger way. In the 2015-2016 hockey season, I played for the New Ulm Sleepy Eye 15uA hockey team. This was a major step from the last season, when I was in 12uB. My team and I won almost every game when I was a 12u. I was so used to winning. The competition was so weak that we didn’t have to try to win games. Then we got moved from the B level to the A level, which is a massive jump. I went from playing teams like Worthington and Marshall that were bad, to teams like Edina and Minnetonka that were good. The competition was way harder. I …show more content…
One team we never got close to beating. I knew that going into the games against them but I never admitted it to the team because if the team knows that the captain thinks that, they for sure won’t try during the game. Even though I never said that, I felt like we never played to our full potential when we played them because “There’s no way we can beat them,” said some of my teammates. I always tried to show a positive attitude so my teammates would think positive too. We had times where we could of scored goals against the other Edina team. We even tied them once. My team and I just never came out strong at the start because it’s another Edina team and New Ulm can’t beat an Edina team. Edina is just too good. When most of your team thinks this way, there’s is no way you can win any game. That’s was the problem with my team, we weren’t serious. I give my team credit though, because despite all of the troubles we had during the games and how enraged and bitter you got, everything left when we got in the locker room. I was such good friends with everyone in that locker room, that you could never be mad at any of them. I have been playing hockey with these girls for a long time that we all got so close. I knew random facts about everyone of those girls. I was not going to let a game that no one can control, break up our great friendships. That is what I loved about my

Therefore, this was a team of small freshmen and sophomores playing against mostly juniors and seniors at the varsity level in one of the most talented high school conferences in the state. We finished the season 1-15, most of which were pretty tough losses but we worked hard and left it all on the field every game and that in the end is all that matters. The most prevalent memory was after the last game all the players were pretty upset about how it went but our coach ended our last huddle with, “We came into this season knowing it would be challenging and we worked hard from start to finish and I think we ended this season better than we started, which means that next year is gonna be a pretty good…

My domination of easily breezing by my neighbors in street hockey and always ranked at the top of stat sheets for scoring in recreational hockey, abruptly ended when I joined my first competitive travel hockey team. My first game exemplified the setbacks my fear imposed on my team when I frighteningly moved out of the way of an enormous player to grant him a free pass to the net in which he scored the game winning goal. Shamefully looking at me as if I were an ally of the other team, I became alienated after my team after they began the tradition of…

I have loved playing soccer for many years, I met many people, made many friends, but what would stick with me the most would be the competitions I got to participate in with my teammates. During the Euclid Memorial Tournament Finals our team, Euclid Elite, lost in the semi finals. Many members of our team tried very hard and worked together to try to win, but there were a few who had given up before the game was even over causing us to play even worse, contributing to us losing. The game ended and we had a talk after the game, many people left angry and disappointed that we could not recreate our past success and win the Euclid Memorial Tournament. I learned many things from this experience, some things that would help me improve myself,…

I was terrified. I would try my hardest to get a good spot on the team by copying what the other girls did. But then I found out that I needed to do the things my coach said and forget what the other girls were doing and focus on what I was doing in my own way and that i needed to pay attention of how I was playing and concentrate on how all the girls passed the puck and that I needed to start being more confident of I play. Hockey has taught me that anything is possible and that I just need to make goals to accomplish them. At first when I started out playing hockey, I had a goal that I learn to do a crossover in two weeks.…

I had one goal that I did not see happen any of my four years there, which was getting to the state championship. There were a lot of things that had to go right for this to happen. The team had to be good, they had to work hard every day, they had to win districts, they had to win regional’s, and the most importantly the team had to get along great they have to be a family.…

When playing sports, adversity can come at any moment, yet it was one specific game that made me realize that anything can really happen. During the summer of 2014, the soccer season was starting to wind up and things were coming to a close. Sitting at the top of the league were Juventus Y, they had not lost a single game, nor tied one. They were guaranteed to win the league and were thought to be undefeatable.
