I realize this is short notice, but I was wondering if I could possibly have a short extension on the Paper 2 assignment.
Just prior to Spring Recess, my 12-year-old brother was diagnosed with a form of Acute Leukemia as well as a serious form of Staph infection in his blood brought on by his compromised immune system. Due to these circumstances, I have spent the majority of the past two weeks in the hospital with him, as well as getting affairs in order for my Mother and Father, and have not been able to focus on school. Additionally, I was just diagnosed with strep throat this morning and could not return to school until mid-day today. Due to the tardiness of this request, I realize that you may not read it in time or just cannot grant me

Several years ago, when I was a brand new nurse’s aide, I had an experience with a dying patient that changed my perspective completely. And she was very much at peace with this, when talking to throughout my shift I inquired how she could be so calm and collected. She told me that death was just the next step.…

I have chosen Cancer as my favorite constellation because it is the sign I was born under. Latin for "crab", it is the dimmest of all the zodiac constellations and used to be the Sun's most northerly position in the sky. It is located in between Gemini (to its west) and Leo(to its east). It is best known among stargazers as home of Praesepe, an open cluster. Cancer is most well known in Greek mythology as the crab sent by the goddess Hera to help the hydra kill Heracles.…

The Childhood Cancer Survivor Survey constructed by the National Cancer Institute in 1993, they composed a retrospective piece of research into 14,000 ex-patients with 3,700 siblings. The conclusions drawn from the study inferred that the adults who survived childhood cancer, had the same positive psychological well-being as their siblings. Contradicting this, another report stated that adolescent survivors were 1.5 times more likely to have depression and anxiety in comparison to their siblings, and 1.7 times more likely to act out on antisocial behaviour. The majority of researchers carried out their investigations through the use of questionnaires, a self-report technique, therefore easily affected by subjectivity.…

This letter may come as a surprise to you since it is being sent out so early, but Easter is drawing near and the class thought that it would be good to write our buddies before the Holiday. Although since we are also sending out an Easter card to accompany these letters, they may be a little shorter than usual. Anyways, I hope this letter finds you good health, even though we were recently made aware that you were feeling a little under the weather. As you may have remembered, the last time I wrote you I mentioned an event by the name of careers and manners. I would love to tell you about that, but unfortunately I was feeling a little under the weather myself and had to leave school before the event began.…

After being examined by the doctor, she told me I had strep throat and my neck was swollen because of it. At age six, my younger brother Christopher was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, a chronic condition that renders the body unable to produce a sufficient amount of insulin. At the time of his diagnosis, Christopher and I were enrolled at a school in which our two grades were taught together in the same classroom. It hurt me so much to see his empty seat some days that I refused to go to school, and reminded me how he would scream when before his shots. I don’t remember much of spending time at the hospital with him, but I clearly remember my family’s distraught reactions. His diagnosis affected our family as a whole, but brought us closer together in the long run.…

My brother Lester was first diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at the age of sixteen. Paranoid schizophrenics often have false delusions and auditory hallucinations, causing them to see things-people or objects that aren’t really there or to hear voices no one else can hear. It’s difficult for schizophrenics to differentiate between their illness and reality. For the most part, they can’t. It was hard for my family to accept the diagnosis, but we learned to deal with it.…

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, known as ALL, is a type of cancer of the bone marrow and blood. This type of cancer develops quickly without treatment and does not have a precise cause. Signs and symptoms to look at for are: aches in the arms, legs or back, bruises for no exact reason, enlarged lymph nodes, fever without an obvious source or a lasting, low-grade fever, headaches, pale skin, pinhead-size red spots under the skin (called petechiae), prolonged bleeding from minor cuts, shortness of breath during normal physical activity, tiredness or no energy, vomiting, and unexplained weight loss. To diagnose ALL, a doctor or oncologist will take tests on your bone marrow. These tests will allow a doctor to find out how many ALL cells are in your marrow to determine the best possible treatment plan.…
