Personal Narrative: Ms. Bishop As A Role Model

Improved Essays
When I came to the woodlands christian academy, I was awkward, quiet, and had a low self-esteem. We had moved from Colorado and I wasn't handling the change all too well. Where I expected to find loneliness, I found camaraderie and open arms. I made great friends and discovered amazing role models. When Ms. Bishop first arrived at the school, I did not have a high regard for her. But within a month, I found myself looking forward to her class. She has an attitude that just draws people to her. Her devotion to Christ is always as clear as a bell, shown through her kindness and honesty, and she is constantly inspiring others to be more Christ-like as well. She is always smiling, and when you talk to her, she makes you feel so important. When our class misbehaves, it is obvious that she cares for us even when she is forced to be strict. When we are having a tense moment in class, Ms. Bishop’s laugh always lightens the mood and ushers the positive energy back into the room. I remember when I was so stressed over an essay, I started crying in class. She took my hand and hugged me until …show more content…
Bishop has definitely helped me develop as a writer. At first, I was really scared to really put a lot of effort in my work because I was scared of what other people would think. She noticed that and helped me understand that it didn’t matter what other people thought if I was doing what I loved. With that in mind, I began to pour my heart and soul into my writing, putting emotion into it so that the reader could feel what the character felt, and could walk in the character’s footsteps. I know Ms. Bishop wants me to succeed, she wants my best every time. She will ask me how I think I could improve, what I think could be done to make this paper meritorious. All teachers want their students to succeed in school and in life, but I believe that she has surpassed them all in terms of the dedication and effort she puts out to help us. Thank you for all you have done for us Ms.

The site that I visited was Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC. I went to a sermon, with some friends, that took place on a Sunday night. When we arrived at the church, we stayed together and observed the site. The members of this church all seemed to be within their twenties and thirties; there were a few younger children and a few older women and men, but not many. Most of these people seemed to be from Christian ethnic backgrounds or just unaffiliated with any ethnicity.…

She’s still showing incredible growth too. She has very much embraced Jesus, but what’s more is that she feels included in church community, to the degree she has been giving back in the form of serving at Sunday morning worship and having the group over to her home occasionally. Indeed, she’s quite surprised me by her openness to being called out on her sins and stepping into…

I really appreciate Cathy Small’s appreciation and respect for the Tongan people and culture. Our family like so many immigrants have a great story and journey to America. My relationship with Cathy I would say is professional in nature. As an Anthropologist she tries to remain objective. Her approach to her study takes Humanistic approach to anthropology, as Ivan Brady suggests, “must be creative, eager to search everywhere and to account for the greatest array of happenings, and willing to reach out to alternate narrative forms.…

Finding someone to admire is a difficult task in itself. The title of role model can be bestowed to anyone ranging from a celebrity or to the local mail carrier. Whoever it is, they are someone you are proud to look up to no matter what, and can always depend on. Fortunately, I have a person who I partisan and proudly call my role model. This person goes by the name Rachel Meyers, she has been my role model for two years and she is a marvelous friend of mine.…

Nikail Janet-Rose Francis is who I am. A young African-American by appearance but little does society know that the melanin in my skin represents more then just the "black community". Fortunately, my family has given me the privileged to witness successful, motivated, and accomplished individuals through their own actions. Becoming a doctor has been my aspiration since I was six years old and I asked my pediatrician "how can I be you?" Honestly, I did not originally want to attend the University of Florida.…

Today’s goal was to introduce me to the site, the people that work in my department, the resources available to workers, and current projects. My volunteer supervisor, Geraldine Baptist, showed me around the hospital, specifically where I would normally sign in and sign out, the cafeteria, and the Occupational/Physical therapy outpatient department. Upon arrival at the OT/PT department, Ms. Baptist introduced me to the front desk secretary, Mauracell, a sweet, openhearted young lady. Mauracell warm welcoming made me extremely comfortable, and all anxiety was put to ease. Mauracell showed me around the office and work center, then introduced me to each person present and gave me a description of what types of things they work on.…

In the discombobulation of day to day life, all types of people are going to try to knock you down. This hardship was experienced personally by Brenda Roza as she realized that “there may not be that person next to you that's going to speak up for you”. There is no reason for strangers being malicious, to try to knock other people down when they’re not even known to you. Regardless, it is imperative that you are able to defend yourself- just as Brenda Roza did. Having been told throughout her entire life that she couldn’t do certain things, Brenda thought that that being a successful person might be beyond reach to her - impossible.…

Everyone can say that they always imagined or wanted to look up to someone whether if the person was famous or related to them. Throughout my teenage day I’ve always wanted someone to mentor me and show me things in life that I can one day use in the future years to come. I didn’t want a mentor that was a few years older I always wanted someone that was almost twice my age, maybe even older than me. My mentor that I will be talking about name is James. At times I think it’s often quite normal for new teachers to become overwhelmed their first year teaching. Especially at a school where there may not be enough resources to adequately assist them, this leaves many new teachers to fend for themselves. In my experience, it was my mentors that made a difference in my career, and prompted me to pay it forward and it is these mentors that I try to emulate in my own mentoring. A mentor serves as a professional role model for the mentee.…

I imagine myself walking through Barnard’s black iron gates, leaving behind the fast pace and overwhelming excitement of the city I have always loved, and entering a place where faculty and students make up one community. I am enthralled by the prospect of learning beside other passionate women in an environment that encourages intellectual-curiosity. With its Nine Ways of Knowing, Barnard is dedicated to equipping young women with the confidence and skills that aided the success of Martha Stewart and Zora Neale Hurston. The ubiquity of great women and the outstanding academics is both empowering and awe-inspiring. A Barnard woman is strong, independent, driven, passionate and, as Professor Shu-Wen Wang said, “defines her life for herself.”…

I pulled my cap on an crossed the room quickly.…

When I began this course, my mindset remained that my spiritual formation stood strong. Even though I knew I had dark side issues, to my knowledge they had never come to the surface. That mindset was challenged in 2012 when I experienced personal attacks from members of my church in which I had yet to experience in ministry. The personal nature of the attacks helped me to realize I had unresolved issues from my youth. At the time of the incidents, I did not have the tools I needed to be able to properly deal with my issues.…
