Moving to Wyoming

“We are moving to Wyoming” my mom said. A couple days into summer vacation the plan to move was finalized. At dinner that night the whole family agreed to then proceed with this new adventure. My mother had good reason, she said we would have access to a better education in Wyoming, it would reduce the number of times we commuted over Teton pass and it would help my father’s work be less stressful. The move, for me, was difficult, but I persevered through it and became stronger in the process. I can identify two life skills I used; values and independence.
My brother was graduating from the small independent school that we attended, started my parents reflecting on our future. The fact that my brother was headed to a subpar school system was the real kickoff. Idaho is 49th out of the 50 US states in education and my parents were not satisfied with that. My dad’s work was a gigantic factor in our decision to move. My dad is employed at the Old Folks Home at Saint John's Medical Center in Jackson. He had to get up at five thirty most mornings and he would return at nine PM. Moving to Wyoming meant that he would be able to awaken later and walk to work. My mother commuted over Teton Pass to work as well, sometimes twice a day. My brother was becoming a Bantam in hockey, which meant he now would have hockey practice

It is time that I can waste in other ways. Another positive aspect is that I have acquired a whole new group of friends. New friends mean new opportunities, new possibilities and most of all a chance to start over. Our house is miniscule and we don’t have a yard. But on the plus side, our location in downtown Jackson is more convenient and we have the boulder park nearby. We are closer to the ski resort, therefore we can take the bus. Taking the bus saves fossil fuel, which is better for the environment. All these advantages add up and Jackson is a more fitting place for my

Here I am today singing songs about the south-land;because I miss 'ole' 'bamy once again. Years ago I left my home state of Alabama, where the skies are so blue and I moved to the not so great state of Montana. Many people questioned me on why I moved to Montana, and my response back is because in that moment I felt like I needed a change, but in the end I think I made the wrong choice to move away from Alabama. But soon I will be back to sweet home Alabama,oh,Lord, I'm coming home to you. Back in early March of 1974,I was working at a local convenience store.…

Growing up in Vail, I would often ride the chair lift with strangers and they would ask, “Where are you from?” I would reply “here.” The people I shared the chairlift with would tell me how lucky I was, but I would just smile politely and nod, unaware of my fortune. I had grown up in mountains and didn’t know anything different. As I have gotten older and been fortunate enough to have traveled outside of my familiar mountain range, I have realized how intensely beautiful mountains are.…

Growing up, my family and I weren’t very religious by any means. My parents grew up in Catholic families, but when they moved away from their families, they moved away from God too. Every time we were stationed in a new place, my parents always blamed not going to church on the military and how we would always be moving. My sister and I didn’t mind this, because we didn’t really know what church was, and didn’t understand the meaning of it, but when we moved to Louisiana in 2012, I met a friend that would change this. I met this girl Samantha, who seemed to be in a few of my classes.…

When I was 16 I moved to from California to Texas. During this time, I assume everyone in Texas wears a cowboy hat, boots, talks in a southern accent such as saying y’all and other such stereotypes. I assume the general understanding of Texas from what I was taught as a kid in movies, music, and shows. Once I moved to Texas that that type of thought was used against me, my classmates assume I probably l go to the beach and surf and have met plenty of celebrities when I lived in California. This is an example of REPRESENTATIVENESS HEURISTIC to judge or presume a someone or something relying on past experiences and mental representations to a new situation creating a particular group.…

One cold and dreary day in January, I got home from an uneventful day at school. I never would have guessed what was about to happen or thought that this would ever happen to me. I was just a quiet freshman in high school. My father sat down with my family and told us that we were about to move to Texas. I was both shocked and a little excited to move because I’ve always wanted to go south.…

March 1st, 2013, the night I turned my freedom over to a 5ft2 blonde whose name will be left unmentioned due to the integrity I have. I am a Seattle native at heart, but for the past 7 years I have been living in Sidney, MT.
