Personal Narrative: Moving To San Francisco

Improved Essays
I’m so excited. We’re moving to San Francisco from Hollywood. I can’t wait to see all the things they have in San Francisco. That’s why I’m excited. I’m packing all my clothes and toys. I’m taking my shiny jewels just in case. I like shiny things.
Today I’m moving to a different house. I’m scared and I’m also excited. I’m so excited, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Emily Sims. I’m eleven years old. I’m turning twelve in January. Today, I’m moving to San Francisco from Hollywood.
“We’re almost there. . . . Wow! Look at our new house,” I say to my brother, Emmitt.
“And look! A door on the top level, but outside,” my little brother says, confused.
“I’ve always wanted a room like that. I call that room,” I say.
“No, I want that room,” Emmitt says.

“It’s just kind of a girlie room,” Mom say, trying to cheer Emmitt up.
I can’t wait to see what it looks like inside!
When we park the car, I jump out of the car with excitement. As we walk down the lane way, I see the prettiest stones I have ever seen in my life. We go inside and I think, It looks bigger inside than outside.
I go upstairs to see my new room. It is beautiful. I go back downstairs like a kangaroo. My mom helps me with my suitcase. “Thanks, Mom!” I say as I run upstairs like a cheetah in the hurry.
I unpack my stuff and look outside. I think to myself, Oh, tomorrow is going to be the best day ever. I go to bed questioning myself about how they made a house like this one.
The next morning, I wake up and I get dressed. I eat my breakfast as fast as I can. I pack my bag and I walk to the lane way. It is time for school. On the bus, Emmitt makes a friend right

When we moved back to Los Fresnos, my mom would take my brother and I to the library in the summer at the beginning of my sixth grade year. I remember the first time my mother took my brother and I to the library. The long rows of bookshelves were a true sight to behold. In that instant, it was as if my mom read my mind. “Now, let’s go get you two your first library card.”…

A universal theme for me moving from Texas to California is overcoming. I was 8 years old when my family moved, and had to overcome knowing no one, a new school, and being out of my comfort zone. At this age you tend to start making good friends, all hang out in groups, and be less adventurous. My parents kept saying, “Find people who like the same things as you, and everything else will be easy”. The next week I did just that.…

For many parents, the birth of a new child brings joy and glee. However for my father, I was a burden made by his late-night illegal activities. West Englewood is an area many people have not heard of - it’s tucked inside the southwest side of Chicago. During the day, the people of Englewood would wake up to the smell and sound of gunshots and burning tyres. Police officers would parade the streets in their well-ironed uniforms and the alleys would be covered with bright and colourful graffiti of sayings and images, which I didn’t understand at the time.…

When I was younger, my parents always bragged how I was a quiet and obedient child. From the balcony that was located at the top of my towering apartment building, it felt as if the entire busy and animated city could be seen. The beaming lights along with the streets that were always astir made it impossible to take my eyes away as I latched on tighter to the frosty railing. A smile played at my lips; this lavish city was now my own. Ever since I was a child I had dreams of moving to Philly.…

I was born and raised in Southern California and lived in the same town up until I graduated high school. My ancestors are from England and Norway, but on my mother’s side, my great-grandmother was Native American. Both my parents grew up in Southern California and, generally, lived in the same area for most of their lives. Even though my mother was raised in Long Beach, she pronounces certain words strange, such as wash like worsh. Her grandmother came from Minnesota, and I believe that is how she came to speak with an almost accent.…
