Throughout my life I have lived in three cultural distinct regions Lima Peru, White Plains New York and Baltimore Maryland. For the first two years of my life I lived in Lima, Peru and even though I never culturally adapted myself into the culture I would often visit for months and immerse myself into the culture. I can say with confidence that if I grew up in that culture I would not my be the same person I am today because of the fact that they are a collectivistic country and that would change my outlook on myself and the community around me. At around my second birthday my family and I decided to move to the United States in search of a better quality of life. Growing up, my family and I weren’t very religious by any means. My parents grew up in Catholic families, but when they moved away from their families, they moved away from God too. Every time we were stationed in a new place, my parents always blamed not going to church on the military and how we would always be moving. My sister and I didn’t mind this, because we didn’t really know what church was, and didn’t understand the meaning of it, but when we moved to Louisiana in 2012, I met a friend that would change this. I met this girl Samantha, who seemed to be in a few of my classes.…

The day I moved to Georgia, we had been living in Texas for five years when my mom said we were moving to Georgia. I graduated my senior year from high school I thought she was lying, but she said that the VA center down in Texas was awful, and she didn’t like it there anyways, but she really wanted a better VA system. Then we started packing every month putting stuff in storage, and having to do open houses every other week, we had to clean, vacuum and take our pets with us every time we left the house until our house finally sold. Then we started looking at houses In Grovetown, also for a good school system then we waited 3 weeks for a house because we were looking at spots with upstairs and down stairs, a big backyard for or dogs, also a school…

When I was six years old, I started to get moved around from house to house. I lived in North Chicago, Illinois in a 3-bedroom red and burgundy colored house. I loved playing in the basement with my cousins and sister. We would hang a white hanger from the ceiling to act as a basketball hoop and use balled up socks to shoot baskets. We would stay down there until my granny called us up for dinner.…

One cold and dreary day in January, I got home from an uneventful day at school. I never would have guessed what was about to happen or thought that this would ever happen to me. I was just a quiet freshman in high school. My father sat down with my family and told us that we were about to move to Texas. I was both shocked and a little excited to move because I’ve always wanted to go south.…

What started my love of swimming was when I was at a tender age of three my parents took me to Florida, I observed other kids taking swimming lessons and I decided to start swimming right then and there. On top of that, part of my old school’s curriculum was to have swimming once or twice a week. One of the many reasons why my parents and I moved to Florida was because of my love of swimming. Even though I started school with an exorbitant amount of homework, my parents and I swam at an olympic size pool religiously every Sunday.…

I was born in Africa and moved to America at the age of two. Little did I know that that single move would cause my life to meet the people I would meet and the opportunities that I would encounter. Once I came to America, my family and I moved to New Mexico so my father could complete his Ph.D. in mathematics. There two of my three younger brothers were born but New Mexico was only my backstory. At the end of my first-grade year, my family and I moved to Texas which was where I finally understood what I had been taught by parents: be kind, chose your words carefully, and work hard in everything.…

There was an experience I had before I moved from Philadelphia to Reading. When I was younger, I got locked out of my home, and instead of being scared, I thought of many ways to deal with this situation. From this moment, I learned that I don’t have a normal thinking process, with this knowledge I begin using this for my advantage starting from elementary school. When I was young I had gotten locked out of my house by accident, but I was not scared I just started thinking of ways to get back.…

Living in Olathe, Kansas, a large suburb outside of Kansas City, did not prepare me for the move to Salina. The benefits of living in a larger suburb are that the high schools can really help you prepare for the transition to college level classes. My senior year was when everything clicked into place and I knew what I want to do with my life, and that was flying.…

The thing about living in Wisconsin is that even the Weatherman can not predict the weather. It could be sunny and 75 one day and rainy and 50 the next. Winters can be extremely brutal because of this, which could be a good or bad thing. In my case in the winter of 2015, it was a bad thing. Every year my school took two days off in mid-February and had these things called Mini Courses.…
