Improved Essays
Yesterday , when I was just strolling along the river during my vacation at a quiet and peaceful resort, a loud noise suddenly came into my ears. “A leader has to watch every word he or she says and quickly learns that you can’t go through life without a few critics, some well deserved” (pg. 5), this quote as some of the beginning words from MacDonald truly shows that a leader has responsibilities to uphold to. I found it interesting that he showed these responsibilities are not only external, but internal as well. Many do not realize the internal battles that leaders in ministry go through, and in order for leaders to handle a situation in a mature manner; they must uphold to the responsibilities of character they are expected to maintain. There are many internal and external expectations of leaders that are specified in Building Below the Waterline, but only some really stood out to me as factors that I would practice more than others in my leadership positions.…

We have just left and we are going to follow the south side of the Platte River. We have to cross the river in about 170 miles. We have heard from other settlers that it's too wide to bridge so we have to use the sandbars to get across. That has been a stressful thought, hopefully no one has any troubles. It's also very shallow which could cause problems because the current will be going at a high speed.…

River moved beside me and leaning over me toward the blaring alarm clock, I laid back so was partly under his body. I looked up and notice he had a light stubble growing and I always loved the feeling of stubble, and beards, just their morning stubble before they shave. I raised my hand up just to feel it, I always remember as a kid, rubbing my hand on my dad's stubble and him laughing. I wanted to see if it felt the same or if river would laugh. It felt prickly and rough as I dragged my hand along his jaw.…

As the Spitfire neared the port city of Nassau, its pristine, white sandy beaches along the coastline sparkled brilliantly in the late afternoon sun. Thomas had decided to check in and see if he could form an alliance there for trade purposes. The Captain had avoided Nassau during the years Thomas sailed with him, stating that most of the trading ventures there was still run by filthy profiteers that would just as soon gut you and take what you had to offer, as to do legitimate business with anyone. However, from what Thomas had heard talking with other shippers, the government there had quit catering to those that did not bring a profit into the city- pirates were more into taking than giving. Moreover, since the Bahamas were much closer than…

Ever since I was a child, I have always searched for an adrenaline rush. While vacationing with our cousins at the beach in the South of Spain, I was mystified by a large stone military bunker which had been used in various wars for centuries. Since I could remember, my cousins and I were told never to go near the bunker because our parents told us it is very dangerous or at least they saw it that way. Many times we would see small figures scaling the bunker eventually finding themselves at the top, then jumping into the cool crisp blue water far below. Although none of us would ever dare go near the bunker we were fascinated by its stature.…
