Ever since I was a child, I have always searched for an adrenaline rush. While vacationing with our cousins at the beach in the South of Spain, I was mystified by a large stone military bunker which had been used in various wars for centuries. Since I could remember, my cousins and I were told never to go near the bunker because our parents told us it is very dangerous or at least they saw it that way. Many times we would see small figures scaling the bunker eventually finding themselves at the top, then jumping into the cool crisp blue water far below. Although none of us would ever dare go near the bunker we were fascinated by its stature. Years passed, and when I became sixteen, everything I was told when I was younger began to fade away. …show more content…
You have earned your rights and privileges back” they said. I told them how thankful I was, and how much it meant to me. That morning I almost immediately left the house to go searching for my friends. We all knew directly where we were going without even saying a word to eachother . And before I knew it, there I was, standing at the top of the bunker all eyes on …show more content…
“Go!” a stranger yelled. Then, my instincts kicked in. I sprinted towards the edge and jumped off with an adrenaline rush like no other as I plummeted towards the rock infested waters below and plunging into the dark depths of the ocean only to be stopped by the crunch and crack of my own bones. I tried to swim to shore with cramping muscles stiff and frozen like a block of ice from shock. Thoughts begin racing through my head and I am unable to break free from the chain of fear and pain. I am at the brink of exhaustion and starting to slip away underwater and something plunges into the water lifting me from the darkness below and floating me to safety. Laying, nearly unconscious on the sand I come back to reality; looking up to find my father exhausted laying down beside me.
“Lucky” he says. “Never again you will be so lucky!” “I saved you from drowning!”
I sigh a deep breath, feeling a throbbing, shooting pain in my leg as the adrenaline subsides. “Put your arms around my neck” my father says, carrying me to the beach hospital. “If you had jumped any higher, your leg would need surgery” The doctor said. “You will need to take time off and rest for several days with no activity,” he warned.
We took the car home and I spent the next three days resting at

As he cranked, his old muscles ached with exhaustion and the arthritis in his hands made it difficult to hold on but he persevered. Then out of the black pacific water rose a distinct shimmering silver fin only to dip back down into the deep. Seeing his prize he began to overexert himself and suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. The rod was ripped out of his hands and he could see it fly into the water as he fell onto the deck of the boat. Holding his chest he dragged himself across the cold deck of the boat and reached into his bag of supplies.…

I was safe now, I got bandaged up and my long, dangerous journey was done. To this day I feel I remember it worse than it actually was, but for some reason a Fear Factor kicked into me of getting injured while not being on land. While I am okay now and nothing serious like a scar or infection is on my ankle I did change. Whenever someone suggests something new that possibly may be dangerous I speak out, I am not going to have myself or anyone else get hurt after I now can tell what would happen. Although this moment caused fear and pain, I believe it changed me for the…

I felt a tap on my back, and jumped, as the diving instructor looked at me questioning, “Well, what are you waiting for? Aren't you coming?” In the single most courageous moment of my life so far, without hesitation, I answered, “Yes!” I pulled on my wet suit, which was still freezing from the previous dive that day, grabbed my vest, with an air tank and regulator, strapped on goggles and headed to the edge of the boat. The dive instructor handed me a flashlight, and with a big smile on his face said, “Lets go!”…

I peer over the edge, wincing at the jet black body of water beneath me. I have just climbed a series of boulders, and am now at the top of a cliff, a couple hundred feet above the ground. How I ended up here, I am not quite sure. Physically, I am well aware; Mentally…not so much. For much of my life, I had remained far more cautious than my peers, preferring the safety of the ground to the risks of water and heights Yet, for some unusual reason, I had decided on this particular day that I would attempt cliff diving.…

I have conquered numerous mountains, but I might not be able to climb another one. Back in August 2015, I and my friends took a trip to East Java as a graduation present for ourselves. There were 3 mountains in our itinerary: Mount Merapi, Mount Bromo and Mount Ijen. My father once said that a good mountain climber should have three essentials: strength, determination and humbleness. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the last one as I used to be an arrogant person that time.…

My dad followed me up the trail and was right behind me. This added comfort and support made what I was now nervous and anxious to do much easier. I advanced toward the edge of the cliff, then stopped, closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I was 23 before I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. As far back as Elementary school I knew that there was something “off” in the way that I processed information. That my ability to do well academically was somehow hindered by not having certain tools that I needed, tools I wasn’t even aware existed. In high school, I began to augment my deficits with strengths. Where my grades were lacking I made up for it through creativity; I excelled at art and photography.…

In third grade, a boy named Blake - a notorious troublemaker - would chase every girl during class trying to kiss her on the lips. Most of the girls gave in eventually. It was easier to give in than to keep running. When it was my day to be chased, I turned to him, grabbed his glasses off his pudgy face, and stomped on them in front of all the kids on the blacktop. He ran to the principal's office and cried.…
