Moeller Football With a tradition like the Archbishop Moeller football team, it is easy to see why they have had the success that they have had. With their grueling conditioning, tireless preparation, and endless support from the students of Moeller High, they have managed to have 52 winning seasons, every year when equipped with a senior class. Friday’s at Moeller High School are unique to any other school in the country, the hallways are electric, the fight song blares on the announcements, and everyone is ready to attend the big game later in the day. Students can be seen pounding on lockers, running plays of the opponent in the hallways, and trying to fire up members of the team by tackling them into walls.

Moeller Class of 1995 graduate Greg McHugh, who was a starting receiver on the Moeller 1993 state finalist team exclaimed, “My dad went to Moeller, and I went to many of the games as a kid.” With his voice raising in excitement continued on,” I always knew I wanted to play Moeller football, and when I got to Moeller I was so fired up to play the game I loved in front of thousands of fans cheering me on. When we lost to St. Ignatius my junior year, I was heartbroken. All of our hard work was for second place. I still think about that loss today. There was nothing like going out there on Friday nights… I will cherish that forever, and wish I could relive those days.” McHugh went onto play football at West Virginia University, and the impact Moeller had on him has been a big influence on his life. He and his younger brother, Michael, Class of 1999, still can be seen in the stands of Moeller football and baseball games.
