I flipped through the pages of the portfolio aimlessly. It was horrible, nobody fit this interview and the worse part was that I knew Miranda Priestly, editor and ceo of VLLE, would hate it. I tossed it abruptly in the trash can and reached for another portfolio. I next meeting was in an hour and I was halfway out of my office and ready to go the the door swung open and Miles, my feckless assistant walked in. I would always think of Miles as a feckless loser, no matter how smart and successful he might be. We walked side by side, gossiping about the latest trends as we headed into the meeting room. I looked everywhere, unless Miranda is here incognito, she didn’t come to this meeting. Nonetheless, I spoke too soon, as we were about to take our seats, Miranda walked in. We took our seats at the end of the table, mine by Miranda and Miles across from me. Miles wriggled his eyebrows at me, his gauche manners made me want to cringe, especially when I am sitting next to Miranda Priestly. “Coffee Lacey,” Miranda snapped. When Miranda bossed me around, I realized she and I did not share a reciprocal affection. I stood up immediately and walked to the back of the room, and pour a fresh cup of coffee. Apparently he hated publicity and he’s had a bad reputation with paparazzi’s before. However, I an it in me that I was going to get this interview. I went back to my office and found an office number online and dialed it quickly. “hello, this is Lacey from VLLE magazine-,” I was abruptly innoruptied. “I’m sorry,” she rudely cut in. “Mr. Styles does not do interviews. Thank you for understanding.” I heard a click and the line went dead. After a few minutes of searching, I found a business email for James Payne and immediately drafted a letter. Since I was Miranda Priestly’s assistant, I had a sanguine outlook about getting this

We had only begun the excavation the previous day and had already uncovered one-fifth of the ancient pyramid. I, as well as a team of high-ranking archaeologists, had accompanied Sarah Parcak in an expedition to unearth a lost Egyptian pyramid. “How’s your section of the chamber coming along, Erica? We’ve just uncovered a new sarcophagus,” remarked Sarah as she passed by, carrying a large coffin.…

She has dark brown eyes that sparkle every time she speaks; her light brown skin glows ever so radiantly as the sun hits her; she has thick, brown, short hair that caresses her shoulders. My relationship with Cathy I would say is professional in nature. As an Anthropologist she tries to remain objective. In the discombobulation of day to day life, all types of people are going to try to knock you down. This hardship was experienced personally by Brenda Roza as she realized that “there may not be that person next to you that's going to speak up for you”. There is no reason for strangers being malicious, to try to knock other people down when they’re not even known to you. Regardless, it is imperative that you are able to defend yourself- just as Brenda Roza did. Having been told throughout her entire life that she couldn’t do certain things, Brenda thought that that being a successful person might be beyond reach to her - impossible.…

During the eighteen years I have lived my experiences have been fairly sheltered. I have never traveled out of the country, eaten exotic foods, or gone skydiving; consequently, I haven’t met many people of special interest. Not to say the people I have met are not interesting, on the contrary, most of the people I have come to know all have their own unique stories and experiences; however, I never did meet anyone quite like Miss May. To this day I can’t pinpoint what exactly it was about her that intrigued me so much, maybe it was her rich brown hair and almond-shaped eyes, or how she pronounced candy more like “kehn-dee”, or it definitely could have been the way her eyes lit up when she smiled—still she will always remain a mystery to me.…
