Personal Narrative-Miracle On Ice

“Wow!” I said to my dad as the coach bus rolled into the hilly parking lot of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort on Mirror Lake. My eyes lit up with excitement like a dog seeing a new chew toy. The year was 2012, and I was a part of the Minnesota/Wisconsin Jr. Badgers also known as Team Lake Placid. The games were played at the Olympic Center where U.S.A beat the Soviet Union in 1980 in Lake Placid, New York. This historical event was named Miracle On Ice. I traveled 16 hours on a bus with a team I met a month prior to the tourney, and this was by far the farthest I’ve traveled for hockey. This is going to be tremendous week!
The bus pulled up at 2:00 am on a tired morning at the Pilot Center in Beloit. We were the last family to board and then we were off to New York. I wasn’t able to sleep on the ride because of the rugged, uneven highways. Thus, I sat there pondering my thoughts, thinking about all the cool sites and most of all winning the gold. The grueling 16 hour road trip was all forgotten about when we rolled into the hilly driveway

Today was game day! Our first game was against the Midwest Pride. We ended up losing the game by a small margin. Even though we lost our first game, it was a wonderful experience, and couldn’t wait for the next game. For our second game, we played the New Richmond Bulls. They were incredibly skilled and they dominated us. Our team was officially eliminated from the tourney. However, now that our season was done, my dad and I had time to visit different attractions in the area before the bus returned back to Wisconsin. We saw all the locker rooms of the 1980 U.S hockey team and different memorabilia relating to the significant game. I was in awe and imagined the players sitting right where I was. The coolest thing I saw, since I’m a goalie, was a signed Jim Craig goalie stick hanging on the wall. Lastly, my dad brought up the idea of going skiing. I’ve never done it before, but it sure was a

Standing there on the street, I stood staring up to a hundred giant football players walking by me. As I held the rope that the football players walked through, I stretched out my hand to try and high five as many of them as I could. One… two…three…twenty-seven…twenty-eight…twenty-nine! Each one of them pranced by while the drum line marched them on to the beat of the fight song. Standing there looking up at the enormous football players, I avidly wondered what it would be like to walk through this crowd to go play at Highlander Stadium.…

Ice hockey culture, which has changed throughout time in order to adjust to society, revolves around simplistic ideas rooted deep within the origins and the minuscule changes that are necessary to the game. Certain ideas remain prominent, where players of a team look for solitary expression, the footwear has added a metal blade in the transition from field hockey to ice hockey, and the puck has revolutionized the game with improvements in speed. Ice hockey provides all the aspects of a reflection in the changing of society. First of all, the hockey stick is a necessity of every hockey player, even the goalie. It was a Tuesday, on September 22nd, 2015, I claimed my seat by the window of a Southwest plane, and leaned down to shove my large purple bag below my seat. I had put my headphones over my ears to escape the noises of the world around me. I turned my head to my dad and brother Taylor, they were adjusting to get comfortable, and then I rotated the opposite way to stare out the tiny window. It was a sunny afternoon, I was already thrilled to get out of high school, and to go to Florida was even better! I haven’t been to Florida in over 7 years and before that my family used to go every year.…
