Personal Narrative: Minor In Possession

Superior Essays
On June 8th of 2016 I was given a Minor In Possession (MIP) ticket that I thought, at the time, I didn’t deserve. I desperately needed a ride back home so I decided to ask one of my friends to take me home that was visiting Austin. When I entered the car that morning I knew that it smelled of marijuana and that there were open bottles of liquor. However, I told myself, “I don’t smoke and this alcohol isn’t mine. I’ll be fine, don’t worry.” Regardless of the fact of whether I had possession of the drugs in the car or not, I decided to enter the car. That was exactly when I made a wrong decision that could seriously jeopardize my future. Now, I consider myself a highly successful student at the University of Texas at Austin. After four years of strenuous work all throughout high school, weeks of constant sleep deprivation, and serving as the Commanding Officer of the second best NJROTC unit in …show more content…
Though it can make things in life a little bit more bothersome, I have learned that it is better to be safe than sorry. For example, I used to drive to the gym that was two minutes away from my house without my driver license on me because I believed that bringing my wallet along to the gym was a hassle. However, since this incident, I now bring my driver license wherever I go, no matter the length or duration of the drive. Furthermore, I have decided to stop relations with “toxic” people. I have personally seen other peoples’ lives go downhill after associating themselves with the wrong crowd of people. These people change the way they behave, the way they think about things, and simply have seen their chances of succeeding in life diminish. I never once thought that I could fall victim to the same act, but clearly my association with my friend that drove me on that day is what indirectly led to my MIP charge. Consequently, I now hold this quote from Mark Twain close to my

The Person I have chosen to write this forum on is my mother. I grew up in a home where her parenting style was very authoritative. This has strongly made an impact on my life and how I am perceived by my friends and others. My mother was very consistent with boundaries however; she was always open to discussion. I was always told don't speak to people on the street because of safety reasons. Yet, even then I was taught to have discernment more than anything. I was taught to make a choice of who is sane enough to remember a kind smile and a wave hello, and who was only looking for trouble. This is where I would say I struggled with two sides of me. There was a part that said they're human just like you and some people need you to give them the time of day.…

Since I loved kids and helping people I attended the University of Iowa to be a PA. I thought a Physician Assistant would be the perfect job for me because I could care for people, and still be able to have a family when I grow up. I got multiple scholarships to play basketball from different schools, and I decided Iowa was the best choice because they were a great nursing school, were pretty good at basketball, and they weren’t super far from my family. I got my undergraduate in biology and then I studied 2 years at the hospital nearby.…

Because of my opportunities, privileges, experiences and choices- I have gotten to where I am today and can confidently say that I’m proud of who I’ve become. Throughout this course I was able to immerse myself and really explore the various theories which different scholars have proposed. Many theories were fairly simple to understand and easy to relate to, others I didn’t quiet agree with and found them hard to unfold.…

Surrounded by major hospitals, UIC’s location sets the foundation for great research and internship opportunities for students such as myself, interested in the medical field. I am passionate about being socially involved around campus and in support of my community. Therefore, I would greatly take advantage of the clubs offered. The UIC Cultural Experience greatly captures my attention, specifically the Latino cultural center and Women 2 Women which offer a great advantage to participate in political and social engagements.…

On July 13th, 2015, I was pulled over and given a ticket for a serious speeding violation, going 93mph in a 65mph zone. Not only was this against the law, but it was unnecessary, and reduced the safety of myself and those around me. I made a stupid mistake by speeding that day, and have regretted it ever since. As a child, my summers consisted of “cooking food for the soul” and creating skits with my younger brother at Gran-Gran’s, my great-grandmother’s home. Her home is where I learned to cook the best macaroni and cheese, dressing, and banana pudding in the world! I also perfected my own banana nut pancakes. On any given day, while the food was in the oven, my brother and I would sit in her basement, writing a new script or song, and rehearsing it nonstop. When we moved from Michigan to Nevada in 2008, my creative side went into full gear.…

During the ride, I have spent a great deal of my time striving to not only better myself but also the lives of others I was blessed enough to meet.
