Personal Narrative: Metacognition

Decent Essays
Throughout my high school years, I’ve seen myself grow grown in numerous aspects such as maturity and a sense of responsibility through the habits of heart and mind. My strongest habit of heart is interaction. I am able to work and be completely open and accept constructive criticism with others more efficiently than I was ever able to. Working with others was a weakness especially since I’d end up doing most if not all the work and felt they didn’t deserve my grade. Fortunately for me, I had teachers by my side helping me open up to the idea of working with others. My strongest habit of mind would be Metacognition. Metacognition has been a big factor in high school for me because sometimes I would do things without thinking about the outcome

Interpersonal relationships do not just happen; it takes time to create, nurture, and maintain. “My central goal was incredibly simple and incredibly complex. I wanted it be ‘cool to care’ in my school. I wanted everyone-every student, every teacher, each staff member, all the parents-to think it was cool to care,”…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

Where do I see myself five years from now? I haven’t ever been asked this question before so it never occurred to me to actually sit down and think about it. I’m seventeen years old so at my age kids don’t really think about the future and where we see ourselves five years ahead. I know for myself I am a live in the moment, looking for the next adventure type of person. Being asked this question really makes me slow down and think.…

The norm may not always be the right way to go. I no longer want to be a part of a popular or important group of people, if I feel that what the group is doing or believes in is wrong, even if it means I'm not a part of the norm. I am not afraid to stand out on my own. I have challenged this belief for many years. When I was in elementary school, I was bullied by a group of girls that I hung with, looked up to and idolized.…

The seven self-assessment quizzes I took were sustainable marriage, parenting style, relationship connectedness, how strong is your relationship, domestic violence, love, lust or a loser, and energy vampires. I was shocked and perplexed with the results of the sustainable marriage, relationship connectedness, and how strong is your relationship. The scores on the sustainable marriage and relationship connectedness were a little low however, I scored very high on how strong is your relationship. I felt as if one of the assessments was low they would all be low instead of 2/3 of them being low. With that being said, there is no doubt my wife and I have a strong relationship.…

Throughout the semester my critical thinking changed like rely on reason rather than emotion, evaluate all reasonable inferences, consider variety of possible viewpoints. I was improved and more focused writer than beginning of the semester. Before that sometimes I felt like my sentences are jumping not connected to each other, but I improved in many areas such as thesis statements, creating well-supported and detailed body paragraphs, conclusion paragraphs, and annotated bibliography. Throughout this semester, I learned how to summarize, paraphrase, and quote particular information in multiple articles, and I feel like I have accomplished effectively using all three elements. I am not a native speaker because of the reason I always facing…

A Different Role I had always admired the cellos in the music rooms of Trudeau. In Grade 9, I started playing the double bass when I joined the strings program, and while I enjoyed bass, I had always wanted to play the cello. Making the switch was extremely difficult, but I worked hard for it, and now, over a year later, I am able to play decently. One of the first memories I had with cello started in February of 2015.…

I have had a wrench in my hand since before I could walk. One of my favorite childhood is the week before ST.Patrick's day, my teacher had told us to make traps for the Leprechauns. That night I went home, and went straight into the garage. I started pounding nails, and making a wood live trap. My dad came home, went down by my, stuck his hand in the trap and couldn't pull it back out.…

I have learned to use mind over matter to preserver through fear for something I really love. Near the end of my sixth grade school year I got sick with pneumonia, though I did not know it was pneumonia the the time, and unfortunately had bend timbers soccer tryouts that week! I was in my bed all day long and feared that I may not be able to attend the tryouts, and wouldn't make the team. My body told me I couldn't try out but my mind told me I couldn't give up. “Wow,” was all I said when I saw my friends I haven’t seen all summer standing at my door. I practically hung out with them every day until my hectic summer schedule came in, so it felt like I haven’t seen them in forever, even when it was only about 2 months. It’s funny how you would think summer is the time of relaxation and hanging out with friends everyday. As for me, I stayed a busy bee, and did many activities to pursue my dream of becoming a triple threat, and getting my name known. One day, I wasn’t doing anything in all of the weeks I’ve been so busy, so it was a bit odd when my mom kept on nagging me to get dressed and ready for the day.…

A Turning Point Many events occur during a person’s lifetime, some heal the soul and others leave an unpleasant scar.
