The country had just been through the biggest war of their existence. For centuries, the small area had been left alone. No one bothered because they had so little to offer. However, this war got so bad that the King had to go into battle himself and was quickly murdered. The nation felt the pain through every city and town, no one knew what to do. Their king was so young, so brave. He hadn’t a chance to carry on his bloodline and his ancestors had passed from old age or the Black Death. Or so they thought. In England, a distant cousin of King James lived with his daughter. He had just lost his wife to the end of the plague and was happy to move, much to everyone’s excitement.

Eloise was too busy focusing on the young boy in the front row. It was clear by his garments that he was not a normal citizen, but he wasn’t an advisor’s son either. His dark eyes meeting hers caused a chain reaction that hitched her breathing in her throat. Something about him made her miss her childhood. The blonde’s attention was stolen away as her father’s hand landed on her arm.
