Personal Narrative: Matthew Jacob Taylor

Decent Essays
Critical thinker, problem solver, well mannered, mature, caring, respectful, patient, and disciplined are all words I would use to describe myself, Matthew Jacob Taylor. I was not always like that I’ve had many experiences and help from amazing parents over the years to change my personality, world views, and emotions to what they are today. I’ve always felt older than the other students in my grade even thought I was one of the youngest in my class. What made me that way was working with my self-employed successful dad. He would take me to his work starting at age 4 telling me if I work hard and make the right choices the family business can be mine. It opened my eyes to the opportunities I had in front of me. My mom has always been involved in volunteer work for …show more content…
Playing sports throughout my life made me disciplined and mature, rather it’s getting to practice on time so I don’t have to run laps because of being late or working with teammates to help a greater cause. I learned by playing basketball that if you don’t work hard in practice someone else will beat you to the loose ball and score. It’s like life if you don’t work hard in school and your relationships others will take your job and education and be a better person than you are. Playing golf for 8 years and counting dad, uncle, and cousin taught me patients, you have to wait in between holes for people because they are newer to the sport and can’t hit the ball as far as the more experienced golfers as myself. When I was young this would make me mad because I wanted to play golf and finish the round as quick as possible but as I grew I realized I was once the slow golfer, and I had people nice enough to wait for me and it’s the right thing to do. I know my time is not more important than thiers nor is their time more important to mine we should just be respect and respect others choices. My parents always told me my choices have consequences and ive kept thse words tucked in my brain throughout my

Truth be told, I was only vaguely aware of the Noble Foundation before Jim Johnson, a Noble consultant, was seated next to me at an Oklahoma Crop Improvement Association banquet. While having small talk about summer plans, Jim got out his phone and walked me through the website to find the application. Little did I know that my summer plans would be drastically changed when I took his advice and applied for the Lloyd Noble Summer Scholar program. Being an agribusiness major from Oklahoma State University with only an agricultural regulations background, my overall exposure to the agricultural world has been through legislation, inspection, and guidelines. Needless to say, when I found out I was chosen as an intern I was excited.…

As hard as my relationship was with Thomas, I am grateful for what I learned from being with him. I learned that I am a strong and an independent person. I didn’t need him to make me feel secure and happy. According to Mendenhall (2014), intimacy dances work best when they support both people (Mendenhall, 2014b). I won’t sacrifice myself to a relationship again because the outcome will never make me happy.…

In our whole life span, we come across thousands of people in our lives, whether it be through just observing faces on the street, having occasional conversations with others, or forming a special one on one bond. I, for one, am a big believer that an individual 's life should be expressed through being a tool to inspire, to influence, and to create change for a better world. As cliche as this may sound, just going on in our lives and living can be easy, but fully living and using your life to impact others is a portion of what makes you bold and remembered. Merrill Joan Gerber is one of the very few people that comes to mind when I think of someone who entirely encapsulates this persona. We are saddened by the fact that we lost such a wonderful individual at the age of seventy-seven on the date twenty-eight of September twenty-fifteen, due to Coronary Artery Disease.…

Struck by grace. Three words to easily sum up my experience the summer of 2016. My first year of university came with many challenges; living on my own in a new city came with a lot of personal adjustments. Often times I felt lonely, sad, and isolated without my friends and family back at home to turn to. Days felt like weeks, and weeks felt like months, but the long nights were the times where I was able to deeply reflect on my personal life.…

These performances are a great opportunity for students to share a narrative about a significant life event. I am planning on doing a story about what happened while I was volunteering in Keokee, Virginia. While volunteering I came across a puppy who was in very bad shape and needed immediate medical care. This was a situation where I realized not only did I care dearly about the people I was trying to help but also this dog who had found itself in a very unfortunate situation. This was a significant event which led me to realize that when I truly care about something I am not willing to give up on it.…

A Leap of Faith Sweaty palms, anxiety building inside the chest, face feeling flushed, all because of the one emotion that rattles more cages than anything else: fear. Fear has such a strong hold on each and every person in this world. It can drive us to do better in spite of it, or it can cause you to run as fast as you can in the other direction. I do not have many fears, but the one that trumps them all is heights. This fear has such a strong hold over me that I really was never looking to overcome it.…
