Personal Narrative: Marley Flooring

Marley floor has nearly killed me, but it’s also shown me who my family is. It’s an awful material that requires a lot of time and work to be put down smooth and look nice. It’s some sort of vinyl that comes on PVC pipes, rolled up. Taping it down is an unbearably long and grueling process.
One particularly hot Wednesday night, I was moving rolls of flooring into the auditorium from the lobby. Andy and I rolled up the flooring, the stubborn plasticky devil. Laszlo, one of the most badass people I know, carried a roll by himself. Emily, the nicest person I have met or may ever meet, and I carried a roll together. I was not totally prepared. We lugged it around the orchestra section and to the backstage area. I dropped my end, startling everyone

Camp is place unlike any other. It is a place that people’s wall begin to fall down and new relationships are formed. This is bound to happen when you drop 200 teenagers in the middle of the Smoky Mountains without any of their electronics. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Project Serve team and got to see camp from a new perspective. There’s a little slice of Heaven in Marshall, Texas, where the sun shines through the pines and the sound of cicadas serenade you throughout your afternoon and the lake shines like a plate of polished silver in the early morning sun. When I first came to Camp Fern, I was on my own. Everyone else had known each other for at least two years, so I was the odd one out. In my cabin there was the usual sort. There was the popular one, the attention seeker, the joker, and the one you love to hate.…

Hello Asia, Thank you for responding to my post! I was not previously aware of his mother’s actions during his childhood, we probably watched two different videos. Finding that out has led me to believe that his mother sort of had issues too, it makes me wonder if something was wrong genetically. I think it is scary to live in a place while knowing of the horrible things that took place nearby. Reminds me of a few years ago when phoenix had a serial rapist on the loose.…

I knew he was well respected because every player said hello to him before they took the field and you could tell that they all truly cared about him. It didn’t take long for me to understand why. As the days flew by and football camp was approaching, I started to see Frank frequently. I got to know him a little bit and was impressed by his ability to make someone feel welcomed.…

I was just sitting there on the blacktop with a notebook and pen in my hands. There were students in front of me, observing the world around them. I noticed the students on the upper field, the birds chirping and the ants eating a piece of fruit a few feet away, recording it all in my yellow notebook. When the period started, Mr. Prendergast asked us to grab our notebooks and head outside. We had walked down the old, and worn hallway, to the cracked and dust covered blacktop.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

On Friday, the 28th of February, one of my friends and I decided to have lunch at a little restaurant called House of Tricks. It is really close to ASU and we just got out of a class after a very long day, and we were starving. I have always wanted to try it because I have walked past it many times, and it always looked like a nice place to eat. House of Tricks was named that, for two reasons. First, its owner's’ last name, a husband and wife, is Tricks.…

If I were to describe my life using one phrase, it’d probably end up being an oxymoron like “organized chaos” or “random order.” To the casual observer, my life appears to entail sporadic, eclectic passions that start out strong then fade away, replaced by a new hobby. However, behind this chaotic hodgepodge of obsessions lies a unifying theme: collecting information and expanding my mind. My constant thirst for learning has taken various forms throughout my life. The physical embodiment of this abstract trait is my closet.…
