Pulling back into Boca Chica, we got plenty of “welcome back”s and “good to see you again”s. There was a definite sense of coming home.
The weekend delivered the predicted winds howling 20 to 30 knots, but the sun shined warm and cheery and we discovered that our anywhere chairs on the floor of the bridge are comfy and protected from the wind. Valuable information. I’d rather avoid big wind but sometimes we don’t have any choice.
Sitting in our newly discovered, comfy, protected spot, one evening discussing how much we like this place I said “maybe we could spend next Christmas

When asked to name someone who I think is an exemplary communicator, the person that comes to my mind is a role model of mine, Micaella. At the beginning of my junior year of high school I chose to take a class called Professional Career Internship, or Cadet Teaching. This class provided students with the opportunity to experience elementary school classrooms and the responsibilities involved in teaching by placing them in a classroom to act as an aide to their assigned supervising teacher. Micaella was my assigned supervising teacher and allowed me to take on a large role within her classroom and quickly became someone I looked up to…

Sally Burt is the kindest woman you could ever meet. Many take her kindness for weakness, because she tends to be very passive, but don’t let her fool you, because she does have a feisty side. She is fifty-six years of age, but has the vitality of a twenty-six year old. She has dark brown eyes that sparkle every time she speaks; her light brown skin glows ever so radiantly as the sun hits her; she has thick, brown, short hair that caresses her shoulders. Her loving smile can brighten up anyone’s day; she stands tall at 5’6, and walks proudly, while loving her voluptuous curves.…

I knew Red Lobster was a bad option. I wanted to go to Outback Steakhouse, but mom had her way, even on MY high school graduation. I was stuck, sitting in the booth, waitress staring at me for 15, 16, 17 seconds now. Sitting in my cap and gown, she asked again – “where are you going to college?” I’d prefer the Bloomin’ Onion to this any day of the week.…

Ipperwash Beach has been my home away from home for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories include getting thrown off the inner tube into waves so big they could swallow me whole, campfires that my grandfather would build rain or shine, just so we could get that perfect bedtime treat and a sun burning so bright I thought the sweet summer would never end. As far as I was concerned, Ipperwash Beach was a magical place that couldn’t do any wrong. From a young age, I can remember the whispers and lingering stares I received when I would mention to a camp counsellor or adult family friend that it was almost time to go to the beach.…

When I decided to create a map focusing on the hospitals in New York City, I already had in mind who I wanted to speak to for the interview component. For years, a thin pillow with the details of my birth stayed wrapped around a baby bottle stuffed with hospital bracelets. This pillow was shuffled between the far back of my closet and various boxes under my bed. Though my own name was on both the pillow and the bracelet, Kathleen Sullivan was the name that always stood out to me. Kathleen Sullivan was the name of the person who delivered me.…

Her dreams hadn’t been peaceful, nor did they have much time to develop. It seemed like she was only just laying her head down on her pillow, exhausted to the bone, when the subtle shift of her mattress pulled her from its depths. Was her alarm sounding? Had she slept in later than she intended, running late for work? As the brute got comfortable and eased the sheets down to expose her shoulders, Isla took a slow breath in, confused by the deep voice pressed tightly against her ear.…

Service Learning Project For my Service Learning Project, I decided to interview a woman by the name of Mrs. Hawkes. Mrs. Hawkes is a lady that I have been working on and off with in the military for the past four and a half years. For this project, we sat down after work one day to discuss basically anything that came to mind such as where she is from, her religious views, family, etc. The main reasons I decided to interview Mrs. Hawkes is the high level of respect I have for her and she is probably the most religious person that I am around an a normal basis. I thought interviewing her was a great opportunity to personally get to k now someone that has different beliefs and opinions than myself.…
