It was the morning of my eight grade year when I decided to smoke a blunt before class. My little brother, David, has always been against drugs, but I was his older brother and he’d rather not have my mom disappointed so early in the morning. As I was smoking the blunt, David said, “Hieu, that is not a good idea!” he exclaimed. But I did not heed his warning and continue to smoke anyway. My mother drove us to school every morning, so this particular morning when she was getting ready she asked, “What is the smell?” in the most Asian accent. David and I made up an excuse, that someone was burning wood outside. As she took us to school I can tell she was suspicious, because I got caught smoking marijuana before and even had to go to court. I can see the disappointment in her face but I did not care as I was feeling too faded. I was a bit rebellious in my teenage years and I could tell my mom was suffering from it because in my culture, you are seen as a failure if you do drugs, and marijuana was just as bad as crack cocaine. …show more content…
I felt this ominous feeling the whole way home. I knew there was something wrong and I prepared for the absolute worst. My cousin Ann was at my house; Ann is a nurse so I knew what the drill was… a drug test. Ann gave me a chance to confess, but I kept denying the fact that I smoked anything. As we approached the bathroom, I snapped, “I can smoke weed if I want! It’s my life and I do what I want!” I exclaimed. I would later find out that I got caught not because of the smell of the blunt but because I left the roach on the window side. My mother just busted into tears as if she felt that she failed as a mother. I stood there not know how marijuana could be so

Coffee, the beverage that over 150 million people in America consume on a daily basis, is more addictive than Marijuana. At least, that is what the results of numerous studies on the issue have concluded. When I first heard this report around a year or so ago, I accepted it with a small, resigned shrug. Coffee had, at that point, became what I thought was an essential part of my daily routine, and I had nothing against pot. My coffee drinking habit would be destined to continue on, completely undisturbed and seemingly unstoppable, until Mr. Horn and and his Thoreau activity would suspend it in its tracks.…

I agree, if substance abuse is mixed in with domestic violence the abuse, will be worse. From my perspective, narrative theory can be useful with helping clients with substance abuse issues. By using narrative theory, problems are investigated in terms of exceptions and meaning rather than causes (Gladding, 2015). The issues with the family is externalized to increase teamwork among family members by solving problems and making other options for action (Gladding, 2015). The client will be able to see there are other ways to deal with their issues beside using substances to solve an issue.…

There was only one other vehicle on the lot which was a white Chevrolet Sonic in the process of back out of parking space next to me.
