This position has helped me overcome the timidity I once felt, to becoming a strong and passionate leader. To enhance my leadership skills, I decided to volunteer as a basketball coach for third and fourth grade girls. I instructed them on how to train hard and about the importance of teamwork, while they taught me how to have fun with it at the same time. My favorite accomplishment as a coach was seeing the team score for the first time and watching them all celebrate for each other. Additionally, my growth as a leader has also helped me attain the position of co-secretary for National Honors Society. While occupying this role, I will continue to enhance my communication skills, along with servicing the society. I intend to study human biology, with the hopes of being accepted into its highly ranked doctoral physical therapy program. This school is also affiliated with the United Methodist Church, which will grant a sense of “home” while I am three hours away. Additionally, I intend to run on the university's cross country and track team. This opportunity will nourish my love of running, and will also provide a tremendous support system on the course and in the classroom. The schedule of a student athlete is very rigorous with maintaining fatiguing practices, outstanding grades, and much needed sleep, but it will prepare me for life after college in a way that not every college student has the opportunity to know. I am overjoyed to become a Greyhound at the University of Indianapolis and see where it will lead me in my future.
I would be greatly honored to receive the JKKensil Honors English Award. I am deserving of this award because I will not only use my time wisely as a serious student at college, but I plan on investing time throughout volunteer organizations of the city. With this scholarship, I intend to begin my studies as a physical therapist, and start a whole new realm of unforgettable memories. Though the future
