Personal Narrative: Madison, Wisconsin

As an adult, I can now appreciate how lucky my childhood was. Madison, Wisconsin as my home town has made me value the rich culture and opportunity that it offers. Madison is a town that fits many lifestyles. As with many diverse and dynamic towns, culture, sports, and food are what come to my mind when describing Madison. A liberal college town, Madison offers unique art galleries, music, festivals, museums, and various community events throughout the year. Growing up in Madison, automatically engages people into a community of sports enthusiasm. Bucky Badger football fans are a stronghold and continue to thrive each football season. Amazed, they couldn’t get over how green everything was! I couldn’t help but laugh. Aside from the green summers, Madison exhibits all four seasons to its fullest potential. Beautiful autumn days and devastatingly cold winters are a part of my life that I can’t imagine living without. Living in the Midwest, agriculture is a way of life for many people and Madison is no exception. Noticing that I have a Midwestern accent, people outside of Wisconsin will often ask whether I live on a farm or near cows. Growing up, there was a lamb and a goat farm beyond my back yard fence. Remembering the soft sounds of the animals as they grazed in the field is a fond childhood memory. Yes, farms with cows are plentiful and surround the Madison area. In the summer, hundreds of vendors gather at farmer’s markets offering the best fresh produce which restaurants take advantage of. Expressing a diverse ethnic community in Madison, you’ll easily find a wide range of different types of cuisine found in small quiet neighborhood cafes to large elaborate restaurants. If you like architecture, art, museums, music, and shopping, the energy of downtown Madison will entice you including The Wisconsin State Capitol, Capitol Square and State Street shops showcasing what living in Madison is all about. For those nature lovers out there, the UW Madison Arboretum is a beautiful place to visit in the fall while Olbrich Botanical Gardens has an annual live butterfly exhibit. Token Creek Park offers hiking, frisbee golf, and camping. Furthermore, Prairie Moraine County Park has over 100 acres of walking trails to explore and allows for off leash dog walking!
