Personal Narrative-Mad Dog Program

“5!” the ref screams. Five seconds left until we win a championship. “4!” I hear from midfield. Four seconds left until we win a championship. “3...2...1!” The whistle sounds and all of the Mad Dog players storm the field and celebrate together - as one big family. Every single player screaming, jumping, and throwing their lacrosse sticks and gloves in the air; we were officially champions. That victory that I celebrated in the summer of 2016 was life changing for me. The experience did not just show me that our Mad Dog program was good, it did not not just show me that we were better than some of the best teams around, and it did not just show me that I belonged there. The experience, the ride, showed me that I need to step up my game. It showed me what had to be done in order to win another championship. Not only that, it showed me that I also need to step up my game in the classroom, because if I want to be the very best, I have to put in the work. …show more content…
He hoisted the trophy in the air with one big grin and we all cheered. Today was a special day.We completed one of the greatest tests as a team. We completed what only so many teams can do. We completed a quest that not many teams can do as a one, functioning group. We completed the bumpy, bumpy ride. We completed our goal, winning a championship, as a family.
All in all, the summer of 2016 was a summer I will never forget for many reasons. Like the beach, football games with my friends, lacrosse practices, and many more. Most importantly, I will never forget the experience and the rush of feelings and emotions I had from winning that

July 22, 2012 was one of my favorite days of my life, it was the day we won the Gopher State Baseball Tournament. We got to take a coach bus up to target field and walk on the field with all the other age groups that also won. On the way up no one could sit still we were all exhilarated to be on a Major League Baseball field. Walking on to the Lucas Oil turf as a Carmel Marching Greyhound for awards at Grand National finals after an exhilarating performance of “What a Tangled Web We Weave” was a feeling of pure accomplishment. As a sophomore, I had done this once before, but this time was different. The whole band knew we were in the running for the national title. Avon and Broken Arrow were our biggest competitors. Earlier in the season we won ISSMA state, so coming into nationals we knew we had a pretty good chance of being exceptionally good.…

I stared in at my catcher, Drew Wessel, beads of sweat fell off my forehead. It was the bottom of the sixth and we were one out away from winning the World Series, he flashed me a two which meant curveball. I checked the runner, got my grip on the ball, and checked the runner again. I lifted my leg and let go of the ball. We were the last game of the tournament, it was August 1st and the daylight was just starting to slip behind the Rocky Mountains in center field.…

It was 9PM and had a trip that felt as though we were jumping states. Us captains stay after, while the rest of the team scurried to the bus. I joined my school’s wrestling team during my junior year of high school and went into this new environment with 0 years of prior training and 16 years of “Girls don’t really wrestle”. I was determined to excel during my first wrestling experience to challenge the skepticism that surrounded girl wrestlers. Despite this resolve, I was terrified at the thought of having to actually wrestle someone, so when I found out that my first wrestling match would be against a small, unassuming girl 20 pounds lighter than me, I was relieved. With newfound hope, I went into my match thinking, “How could I possibly lose to someone half my size?”…

If there was one thing I was used to by now, it was that whenever something didn’t go well for me on the baseball field, the future holds green pastures only if I go looking for it. So sure enough, after that loss, I set my eyes ahead to the next season. That final season we had a great start, winning a lot of games, but we ended up barely making the playoff as somewhat of an underdog. We didn’t think about anything that was at stake, we simply played our game all the way to the championship game without a loss in the playoffs. We won the first game of he series and were winning for the majority of the second game.…

The trophy that we received is not worth half of what the trip meant to my teammates and I. We often joke about when we get older and well in our careers that we will travel back to the Bahamas and have even more fun. During this one trip, I learned to be grateful for what I had and to stop complaining about what I didn’t have; that trip made me realize I was truly blessed. I am forever grateful for the chance to be a part of such a great basketball team, but an even greater sisterhood; the Bahamas trip was the icing on the cake of my high school basketball…

We were all glad to have placed well, but were overall disappointed in losing first place by one measly point. Setting the mood for remembering our countless failures and long practices, the seniors went around the group, giving each member of the team their own little speech. When they got to me, every single senior noted how much I had changed over the season. Listening to them recount the season to me, it truly hit me how different I was compared to the beginning of the season. Senior speeches had opened a book of memories for me.…
