Personal Narrative: Lucid Dreams

Improved Essays
Dreams can sometimes feel so real and when they do; boy, it can be very scary. A few nights ago I was having a really bad dream - a nightmare you could say. I don't remember exactly what was happening in the dream but what I do recall is being aware that I was dreaming. That alone was very strange because I've never had a dream where I knew it wasn't real while it was happening. My dreams have always felt very real and I’ve always been helplessly trying to figure out an escape.

I wanted to learn more about what had happened and so I took to the internet to figure things out. I discovered that I had a lucid dream. The more I read about the subject, the more intrigued I became. The first thing I thought was “man, now I can control my dreams.” Apparently, this is the mentality of beginners. Experienced lucid dreamers aim to gain much more from these dreams. They strive for experiences they wouldn't have in their normal waking life. My reading made me aware that Lucid dreams can help us overcome issues that prevent us from maximizing our truest potential. Issues such as overcoming the fear of public speaking or writer's block; basically, it can help you change yourself. An Even more exciting thing is, we can train ourselves to become lucid dreamers.

The first time that happened to me I thought I was dying. I refused to sleep for days. I remember trying to beckon to my cousin, who was sitting at the edge of the bed, to wake me up but I couldn't speak. In my mind, I was shouting her name and hoping and praying that she would snap me out of whatever was happening to me, but she didn't. She hadn't noticed my desperate attempts for her help but I eventually woke up. Since then, it has happened numerous times but it doesn't scare me so much

Every day for which we have lived has begun in the exact same fashion. We woke up. The experience for us is often very similar day to day but most often with a change or two. The sun is shining and there is a clear blue sky or maybe there is rain today, overcast. Maybe you woke up and ate eggs or you were out and had cereal.…

I was having the same reoccurring dream for the tenth time this month, I saw myself in the third person being punched over and over again. The ones punching me would be doctors, politicians, teachers, anyone of any occupation would be punching me, almost as if I was a good luck charm. There was also a man tied on a surgical bed, every time I was punched his scars would heal, and his anguish slowly turned to a smile.…

I believe that a person must reach their higher consciousness in order to recall and vividly remember what has happened within their dreams. When we are awake our higher conscious can be reached. This includes being able to see the truth in our environment, having an understanding of the world around us, and even being able to see what others may not be able to see. During a dream these sensations may stand out to people, and it can also help a person understand more within their awakened world. Taking lessons when asleep and transferring it into the world we know is a hidden charm that people may take for granted.…
