Personal Narrative: Los Charging

I am the oldest of two siblings and we did not grow up with our parents around. Being the person who my brother and sister look up to makes me think twice about my actions. They are my shadow; whatever I do they follow right behind me. I would never want to find out that they are partying with older friends like I did back in high school. Yes, I partied with friends. Did I like it? No. I quickly realized the party scene was not for me. I do not like the feeling of not being able to be in control of myself and letting alcohol control me. My biggest dislike of partying was how people lose their common sense from drinking which can change a person’s life in matters of seconds. For example, take Jessica Manosas situation. The California Supreme Court has decided, “In the 1970’s, the California Supreme Court made social hosts who serve alcohol to intoxicated guests liable for their harmful behavior. The Legislature responded by creating immunity for social hosts but later carved out an exception for individuals, whether licensed or not, who sell alcohol” (“State” par. 5). I agree that there must be some accountability held for those who charge minors at a party. Let’s be honest, a cover charge isn’t to provide more Capri Suns at a party. But, 20 old Jessica Manosa who did charge at her families Diamond Bar rental home party may disagree what her cover charge was meant for. In fact, her lawyers argued,” The strangers who showed up at Manosa’s party were charged $3 to $5 at the door to cover the cost of the liquor.” (“State” par.6). Whether the coverage charge was for alcohol or Capri Suns at this party someone’s child, brother, cousin was killed due to drinking and driving. I strongly believe that justice was served by putting away Garcia behind …show more content…
No. A 14 year old who commits murder and lives with their parent’s gets convicted as an adult. Do their parent’s take the fall with them? No. So why should Jessica’s parents face a consequence for what their adult daughter did. “The question is: Will justice be served when parents who have no knowledge that a party is going on at their house are essentially vicariously liable because they have an 18-year-old child who throws a party while they are gone?” Gary Watt, an appellate lawyer who represents defendants in such cases, said in an interview. This is just another case that proves to the people how broken our system is. Though the victim’s family wants some sort of closure so they point their finger at the host Jessica. “Lawyers for the parents of Andrew Ennabe, the Cal State Fullerton student who was killed, say the answer is yes. “His parents are still distraught,” said Abdalla J. Innabi, their lead lawyer. “This was their middle child who lived at home. His death really has taken a big chunk out of their lives” (“State” par. 4). I have lost loved ones due to drinking and driving and it will always hurt do I think that everyone and anyone be charged due to the fatal accident? No so in this case I firmly believe Jessica nor should her parents be charged with anything to due to his

Recently I turned eighteen and recalling back all those years is nostalgic, but gratifying at the same time because in those years I have been able to grow along with my family. As mentioned before, I have lived in Laredo my whole life and although the majority may dislike Laredo for their own reasons it has truly been a blessing for my family and I since the day we arrived here. Being that person for a group of freshmen would mean a lot to me because I want to help them reach their full potential in high school. I know, from experience, how…
