Personal Narrative: Looking Back To High School

These last four years have been a whirlwind for me. Between school, gymnastics, extra curricular activities, work, cheer, and many more activities I have to say I have been very busy throughout my high school years. There has been ups and downs, yet through all of them I have learned valuable lessons that I will take with me as I go off to college. I tried to challenge myself each year in a different way, being able to look back and reflect on them is a great way to see how far I’ve come since that first day as a freshman on crutches nervous as all get-out to attend Auburn Riverside High School. Freshman year, I started off the first month of school on crutches, and the following two months in a boot. Going into Riverside I thought I was going to be the “weird girl on crutches” yet it was nothing like that. Thankfully I had a great group of friends that I was able to lean on for support, like they were able to lean on …show more content…
Walking into the school on the first day I thought this year is going to go by so slow, but looking back at it now the year has gone by faster than I could ever imagine. I got involved with many things this year because I didn’t work and I didn’t have anything to do other than cheer. Cheer was one of the best decisions I made, and looking back at it I wish I would’ve done cheer all four years at Riverside. I grew close to people I never would’ve talked to last year and made many memories that I will never forget. In school I decided to take it easy course wise, I wanted to focus on keeping my grades up. I took year long classes of AP Statistics, ASL, and yoga. I took semester long classes of economics, sociology, college writing, global issues, debate, and astronomy. I loved all of my classes this year so much. I’m especially thankful for my college writing teacher Mrs. Rohlff because she helped me open up and become more outgoing in a class setting and to be comfortable with who I

Coming into Geneseo during the summer was something I was not looking forward to. I wanted to just jump into the school year and saw the summer as a waste of time. At the end of the summer I was wrong, and I at this point couldn’t be more thankful that I was able to be apart of it. Following with the INTD class into the school year I just saw it as another class that I just had to pass. What I didn't realize was how much I would learn about myself throughout the summer and fall semester.…

Valedictorian Speech Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, fellow graduates. First of all I would like to thank the teachers, parent volunteers, and any other person that was not mentioned that has had an impact in our years at St. Albert. Some of you may not have thought of it this way, but elementary school is where most of your year of education will come from. This year would not have been the same without them.…

As I look back into my year, I would say that it was a pretty interesting one. This is my last year in Barrow High School, and I think that I really need to just give it all and end this with an exclamation point! It’s almost Christmas break and the first semester is about to end as well. I think my grades are not that bad, I guess. I even still remember the first day of the school year, and I remember the first day during my fifth period class.…

A Change in Scenery, A Change in Me. The majority of my early teenage years were spent hiding in a metaphorical shell, keeping my thoughts silent and contained within my mind. I was the face no one could put a name on. I was "that smart girl" who everyone knew of, but no one actually knew. Their perception of me was completely blank, and when I disappeared out of their lives, it was as if I had never been there in the first place.…

High School, especially my Junior year, has been academically challenging and showing me what I am capable of doing. The most challenging course I have taken is AP Chemistry, because of the difficult lessons that I needed to learn. My class, along with my teacher were great, but many materials were required for me to learn and know in preparation for the AP exam. Overall it was a little overwhelming, but when it was time to take the exam, I knew many of the answers to questions I would have never thought I could answer in the beginning of the year. The 2016-2017 year has taught me to realize my strengths, but also my weaknesses.…

There have been a lot of challenges I have had to face in the past 17 years already, but the biggest one that has impacted me the most and impacts my future was my early years of high school. When I was a freshman I was entering a new school, new surrounding, new life. When I was 13 -14 years old, the things that mattered to me most was to be “popular” and cool, and care about making memories and friends instead of good grades. I wasn’t thinking about how right then, what I was doing, could effect my whole future. Junior year…

I was slightly coasting through school, and while I was aware of it, it was hard to stop. My study habits were poor, my procrastination was really affecting my classes and I was rarely really getting anything from my classes. My grades for the most part were fine which did the opposite of deterring my poor habits. However, this incident I believe really did help me to realize the problem. This summer has actually been one of my better ones to date, I travelled around the world, I helped start a volunteer outreach initiative, I worked with a venture backed startup, finished my writing 2 class and did developmental economic research.…
