In other countries women would never think of doing anything that a man could do. Whether it is basketball, being a doctor, or going into the military those women wouldn’t dare to dream such a thing. But I live in America where anything is possible where no female is judged by her goals or dreams and I can be whoever I want to be. My vision of America is one where anyone that works hard and does their best can achieve success. America is a land of opportunity and freedom where men and women of our military have fought and are still fighting so that my generation can have opportunities. I am the only member of my family born in the United States. My parents, brother, and sister immigrated after the anti-Sikh riots of 1984, where thousands were murdered as India descended into nationalistic bloodshed. My own father nearly died: he was pulled off a train by an armed mob, beaten unconscious, and left for dead on the tracks. Shortly thereafter, he gathered everything he had and brought his family to Iowa City. That violence left scars on my father’s body, and it lit a fire in my soul: a desire to live free, and to help create a world where others have freedom.…

I remember on the 4th of July, my dad got a bit drunk and accidentally lit a firecracker in his face. I've never been there, but I’m almost positive that never happens in China. If someone told me about a month ago to define my culture in detail I wouldn't know what to tell them. Now that I know more on the subject I can answer, my culture is American culture but not completely the American culture. I have come to notice that the American culture is very diverse and different than some may think, for instance, if you live on the west coast of America your life and daily routine will be exponentially different than someone from the east coast.…
