Personal Narrative: Living In A Small House In Canada

Decent Essays
I lived in Canada, Alberta for almost seven years, at my dad's job, United Rentals, instead of firing him or laying him off they transferred our entire family down to Colorado, his work was in Denver and moved into an apartment that was close by my dad's work because at the time nobody has bought our house in Canada yet so my dad wanted to wait until the other house sold before he got a new one. By the time it sold and we found a house that my parents could afford I was between eight and nine years old, we moved into a fairly big house because there was six of us so it is very difficult to live in a small house for the four kids, each of us had our own room and in Canada we shared me and my brother shared one and my two sisters shared one,

Moving to Canada was very difficult because I didn't know anyone and the environment was very unfamiliar. I was culture shocked. I'm not going to say that my English was awful but it wasn't superb either. I didn't have any friends and I've never felt so alone in my life. I was proud of myself because I really strived to better my English so I can improve my conversation skills.…

Times have been rough, but I am sure you are aware of this. I am writing to you in a time of extremely dire circumstances. During a case I was part of not too long ago a discourteous lawyer absolutely engulfed in his work decided to say such words that have lifted a forgotten sprit within me. After speaking to the Attorney General about allowing 'mixed company' to be present in cases about prostitution, I was much too overjoyed about winning that I failed to realize the many injustices that are still prevailing, ruining our fellow sisters. It is because of this reason that when I heard such infantile words come out of that lawyers mouth was I absolutely appalled.…

My residential community has had a great impact on me. The community provides an ideal atmosphere to meet a variety of people. Not only does the residential community promote diversity and inclusion, but it has also granted me the unique opportunity of leading in a college atmosphere. After arriving at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I started spending most of my time in the lobby because my room did not have air conditioning. While in the lobby, I met a racially and geographically diverse group of people.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

The flicker of a lamp powered by a dimly lit lightbulb flashed in intervals onto the cracked concrete path. Scattered shrub shavings, dried pine needles, and petrified insects encrusted the crevices left in between the cement squares. The long and narrow path led up to a strong yet aged wooden door that stood at the foot of the house. The house held nine people, three cats, and many tribulations to come. At first glance the house might’ve seemed ordinary; it had five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, living room, kitchen etc.…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…

Growing up in a working class home, I quickly gained the skills of an environmentalist, entrepreneur, and civics leader. I can still recall the smell of the flowering fruit trees of the summer months in sunny South Florid and how every year I would gather the abundance of extra fruit in our backyard and distribute them to our extended family, friends, and neighbors. In our modest home, nothing was ever thrown away, and items would be recycled many times. At the age of nine I was serving hot coffee and small pastries at the walk-up window of the small Cuban café my parents owned. As the United States prepared to celebrate its bicentennial, in the afternoons with a small booklet in hand, I drilled my mother test questions to prepare her for the…

Throughout my life, I have been the victim of several burglaries. At the age of seven, someone, in broad daylight, broke into our house and shot my dad in the chin. I was displaced to my aunt's house for weeks and missed most of my 1st grade year. When I was seventeen, I walked in on my home being robbed by some local kids. They were upstairs when I came into the house and escaped through a window, but the idea that I could have come home earlier still haunts me.…
