Personal Narrative: Life After High School

Improved Essays
I walked into the familiar main entrance of the school, crossing my arms and setting my face into what I thought was an intimidating glare. Although I looked like an angry toddler, with my round face and childish glower, my attitude came across very clearly: I was not happy at all to be back at school. After getting into a huge fight with my friend group earlier that year, I was starting high school essentially friendless.
It wasn’t as if I didn’t have another group of people to fall back onto. The problem came from being completely different from them. They were nice and all, but my personality and interests completely clashed with theirs. I was desperate to find a new friend group, because there was no way I could survive the whole school

Fortunately for me, one of my classmates was absent, so I sat in her place. The next day the same thing happened and again another girl was absent so I sat in her place.…

“Woah, what is that revolting smell?” It took me a second to perceive the rancid smell but when i did I knew exactly what i was smelling, unfortunately the smell was all too familiar. The mix of body odor and gym socks tied up in the overwhelming mask of cheap perfume and cologne pervaded the air right as i stepped foot in those double doors. I was back in the place i had dreaded seeing again since June and 3 short months later here i am again, this was the sweet, sweet smell of high school. It was different this time though, before I had stepped foot inside I scrutinized the outside of the building, the towering brick rotunda read “Cottage Grove High School”.…

I can relate to this post so much, and it truly breaks my heart. From when I was in 5th grade all the way to 9th grade, I was bullied. I honestly can say that those four years were the worst years of my childhood. I'm now a 22-year-old women and I still remember every single time those bullies hit me, pulled my hair, called me horrible names, throw my things in the trash can, and even glued my pants to my chair. It didn't matter how many times I asked my professors for help, they never believed me.…

My Academic Decisions After High School After high school, I plan to attend a four year college and study my desired major. Depending on the career field I would like to go in, will determine whether or not I will go to graduate school. I want to attend a college that is small and out of the state of New Mexico, because they are more personal and I feel like with bigger colleges- you do not have the chance to connect with your professor or have your work evaluated more closely because of the vast amount of students and grading professors have to deal with.…

When I was a naïve little girl in middle school, I always had a problem speaking up for myself whether it was to stand up against a bully, answer the teacher when called upon, or voicing my opinions to my close friends. I’ve always had a problem with voicing my opinions and speaking loudly because I was fearful to be judged or to feel useless when I spoke them. I was an awkward adolescent, 14 year old girl who had many insecurities and always muttered under her breath when called on in class. I was shy when it came to just being myself in front of my other peers. My shyness and insecurities didn’t really help with the fact that I had to do presentations in front of the class and had to socialize when we were paired up with partners to work together.…

Discovering my hidden potential was the most critical and profound hurdle I had to overcome. During middle school, I was a chubby child teased about my weight. Nevertheless, I enjoyed going to school and never paid much attention to the rude comments made by the other children. All in all, I had confidence in myself. While attending Pomona, I will be double majoring in Theatre and Anthropology, the scientific study of various aspects of humans within past and present societies.
