Lethal Consumption: Death Denying Materialism; "The underlying motive for accumulating money is thus to acquire magic power through social prestige." - (Money Changes Everything, page 76) How powerful is money exactly? Some would say it is very powerful just because without it we will not be able to sustain yourself in life. It basically keeps the world moving, but the one thing that many forget about money is the power it has to change us or someone we are close to. Some of us grow up in a financially stable family in which we have almost or everything that we need or want. While others are not so lucky and grow up in a family with many financial problems. It turned out that one of her intestines were actually twisted so the doctor will need to perform surgery, remove her intestine and replace it with a plastic one. This caused my father to not only worry about my mom, but how we will pay the medical bills without a job. This job search went on for about three years having us cut back on most things we would normally do and purchase. My brother and I did not mind because we were both already in middle school so we had an understanding of what was going …show more content…
My father ends up telling my godfather where is the rest of the money that he is missing, about two hundred dollars, because that is not the full amount. I had expected my godfather to tell him he’ll get the rest another day, but no he did not. Instead my godfather was telling my father that that those are all the hours he worked and is getting paid for. Of course this caused my father to get mad and so was my godfather. There was a big argument on why my godfather is not paying the full amount that we need the money right now for the medical expenses, but he just did not
