Personal Narrative: Let Themselves

It all started in a place called a factory. I don’t know what that is, but it was where I was born. I started out as a sheet of stainless steel. I was put on a metal thing that cut me into a certain shape that made slick. I was then put into a weird, holder thing that was comfortable. I heard it is called a handle? I don’t know. After I was put into the ‘handle,” and was placed in a unworldly place where it was dark. The giants that were making me shut the weird contraption, and the place I was in turned bright red and it was very hot. I could feel the “handle,” melt on me and it was stuck there until I broke. The giants took me out and placed me in a soft place with things made of foam. They closed something that made the light go away and …show more content…
A lot of giants passed the case and looked at me. They talked to the other giants and they always never would touch me.
Finally one day, a giant with a littler giant walked up to the case and spoke in a weird language and handed over green paper to the other giant. The giant behind the case picked me up and placed me in a smooth and comfortable box with black foam. I could feel the box moving around, but the foam was too comfy so I fell asleep. Later on in the day, I woke up to light shining into the box and giants surrounded me. The smaller giant picked me up and looked at me gingerly. I didn’t try to move, but the small giant took me out to a place with a big light above me and there was a lot of green on the ground. The small giant swung me around and started making weird noises. He said that Charlie Beckham will not be defeated. Charlie Beckham must be this small giant’s name.
He swung me around some more, but then he threw me at a big brown object with green on top of it. My head got stuck to it and I sat there for ages. Charlie finally picked me up with his big mouth open and showing his smile bones at me. He placed me into a weird case that was my

I struggled, but I didn’t budge. The light on my legs went away and I knew it was time to sleep. Tomorrow is a new day and it will be filled with adventures. Charlie took me out of my case and took me to the place with the green ground. This time we went past the big brown object and went to a new place. The place had a liquid streaming down it and I could see things moving in it that are about my size. Charlie picked up a stick with line on it and casted it into the liquid. The big giant came and said that this river is full of fish to Charlie.
That what the liquid must be, a River, and the things in the river are fish. The string on the stick pulled and Charlie pulled it even harder. A “fish” sprung out of the water and almost landed on me. The fish wiggle a little bit, but then laid still. Charlie picked it up and let out a big noise that I think it meant victory. Charlie picked me up and ran to a smooth top object with a place for the giant to sit. He dropped the fish on the smooth object and placed me on the side of the fish. I thought what is he doing, but Charlie pushed me into the fish and slid me to the right. The Fish smelled

This idea is supported by the frequented use of self-address implemented in the second half. The speaker becomes more involved. “I thought,” “I looked,” “I admired,” all produce a more active role on the part of the speaker. The turning point in the poem that triggers this alteration seems to be when the reader realizes that the fish is in fact still alive. “While his gills were breathing” (line 22) is the first action given to the fish and the first time he is addressed as a living thing.…

Fishing with Papa As the year's pass, I find myself fantasizing of going fishing on my papa's lake. He bought the land when I was in kindergarten, and I spent countless hours there each summer running free, learning to fish in our lake, and discovering who I am. My best reminiscences of growing up are in a boat, listening to my papa's stories, with a pole in my hand. I look back now and comprehend that, by teaching me to fish, my papa eventually taught me how to be patient.…
