I was able to acquire knowledge and skills on how to write a contract and budget, the overall cycle of presenting it to the owner and how to appropriately negotiate and assign risk. While I did not work directly with risk management and ethical issues, I gained some experience in contracts. When I first arrived to my internship, they were in the process of assisting in the designing of the hospital expansion. Therefore they were continuously keeping track of how much various things might cost the owner, and beginning the contract to ensure that everything necessary was outlined in the contract. This included the listing the items excluded by the contract, the budget summary showing where money was being spent and what was included in the contract. This process required months and months of revisions as new items came up and new drawings were released. I was fortunate to see this process because

This required some interpersonal relationship skills on my part. I knew that no matter who I was working for or where I was working, I would be able to succeed. It was more a matter of making sure that I was doing the best job that I could and reading how the different people wanted me to complete the task at hand. Having already known some of the people I was working with, I used those relationships to further my new relationships with the people I had not met or worked with before. My interpersonal relationship skills have increased as I have learned new ways that other people expect things to be done, and had the opportunity to relate to different colleagues at various levels of the construction
