After one of her first lessons, she texted me the following:
“So last night in pottery class, I kept thinking about God being the potter and us the clay. The teacher kept saying the hardest thing was getting the clay centered, because if it isn’t centered on the wheel, you can’t mold it. Then I kept thinking of how the hardest thing for me is to get centered on God. I kept picturing me on the potter’s wheel, running around and Jesus just asking me to please stay still and focus on Him. Take a moment and picture yourself in the middle of a potter’s wheel. You’re just spinning and spinning, getting wobbly and misshapen from the pressure pushing on you. Now picture Jesus sitting down at the wheel. He gently lifts His loving hands to surround you, molding you with precision, patience, and care. The more we let Him shape us, the more we become like Him. While the world can make us feel like just a lump of clay, in God’s hands we are vivid, unique pieces.
