“We’re going to Las Vegas!” I heard my mom bellow from upstairs.
“ What” I heard myself say, trying not to believe my ears.
“We are going to Las Vegas” she repeated, “ Pack up, we’re leaving tomorrow morning!” I didn’t want to go to Las Vegas as it took 7 hours to get there, and back( maybe even 10). It took way too long, and in a car that’s not that big, It was going to forever. We lived in an old house next to a church, many people lived with us, such as my uncle, grandma, grandpa, 4 brothers, 1 sister, me and my mom. It was a small house so we had a little trouble packing our clothes. The walls were dirty white, marked with markers and pens then and there, a small table with a bunch of letters on top of it next to the kitchen, a

She told us to eat breakfast and go outside. I ate scrambled eggs and slowly walked outside. My brothers raced right past me. We got in the car, there was our luggage in the trunks, spilling a little bit in the back seats, and we drove right off. We stopped at a couple of places for snacks and bathroom breaks, but then we just kept on driving and driving. We started drive up a hill-ish landscape, the sides covered with rocks and yellow grass. The sky turned noticeably darker, and there was a gigantic lake to the right side of the hill, or mountain. As I looked at the leake My mom told us that it used be bigger. She said it was way fuller than now. The cars in front of us turned into mist as we kept on driving. In a minute, we could barely see the road in front of the car. We drove way slower than we a minute a go. We carefully drove down and the mist lifted from our view. We were going downhill, I tried to talk but when I did It sounded very weird. It was like I was far from myself so I sat there …show more content…
I couldn’t sleep however. The sky was pitch black and from afar we saw distant lights. As we got closer to the lights I saw a sign that read Las Vegas 20 miles ahead. We were getting closer and closer. I couldn’t wait to finally get there. Excitement was running through my body.
Although it took forever to get here I wanted to stay there for a while, the lights were amazing as the neon lights of the Las Vegas strip were lit up and very beautiful. Many people walked through the stores, or outside them enjoying the lights. I saw a roller coaster next to a castle, A hotel I suppose, and A giant black pyramid. I’m glad I went on this trip, I was very patient getting here, and I think it was worth it. We went to our hotel, and unpacked most of our stuff We layed in our beds and turned on the hotel’s T.V. I had a feeling I was going to like this short

    1. I grew up in San Francisco in an area where the majority of residents had lives there for generations. In my building all of my neighbors were older than my parents and a few were even older than my grandparents. Mrs. Garcia was a woman who lived in the apartment under us. She was in her 90s and had lost most of her hearing by the time I was eight…

On Thursday, October 12th, I took the opportunity to help at the Agua Caliente Casino’s College Fair event, with the intention that I would also see the schools I intend to apply. While at the event, I saw many colleges and universities with their luring stands’ free candies, pens, and informational brochures. Overall, the schools all had something great to offer; whether it was the small class sizes or amazing student abroad programs. Although universities from as far as Hawaii to Oregon may have grabbed my attention – because of its stunning scenery and programs – I restricted my preferences to California schools. In particular, my eyes lit up when I saw UC Irvine, UC Riverside, CSU Channel Islands, – given that I’ve seen some of these see…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

Although I am embarrassed to tell this story, for it screams massive class and racial privilege, I guess it will be another step in the acceptance of my innate privilege and social status. A few weeks ago, I had the chance to hang out with a high school buddy of mine, whom I had not seen in a while. He texted me asking if I was interesting in making a trip to the L’auberge Casino, for his girlfriend had just recently turned twenty-one and was interested in trying out her new legal freedom. I had not been to the casino since my twenty-first birthday, about ten months ago, so I decided that playing with the slot machines would not hurt. As the time to leave came, I hopped in my car, left my house, located in a subdivision on Staring Lane,…

In this photograph, a young boy wearing a bubbly bright blue shirt shamelessly flashes a rather tooth lacking smile for the camera. His arms and legs are crossed while he sits on a tiled bench under an ominous and cloud speckled sky. Behind this young boy rests a little girl wearing a tomato red complexion. She is adorned with a shiny silver necklace and a shirt that literally screamed summer. Under her resting hand laid cold tiles that would leave an imprint of the frigid shapes that pressed against her soft skin.…
