I am going to write about going to Lake Rudolph with my best friend, Valorie. Lake Rudolph is in Santa Claus, Indiana. It is by Holiday World. So, when we were at Lake Rudolph, we had a blast! The first day we got there, it was kind of late, so we got milkshakes and we hung out at the park. It really helped that our camper was across the street from the park and milkshake place. At the park it was more of teenagers than kids, I honestly thought that was a little strange. The park had two “street performers”. Well, they were more of teenagers that liked to make people

As a man, I hammered nails on a job-site overlooking Base Lake. An east wind rose off the waves, off the beach, rocks, trees, and birds rode it in a circling flock. As I prepared to leave work, I wiped down each tool. I remember Dad finding his hammer in the mud by our fence. He believed I dropped it in the snow.…

Today Kit and i led the group to Izaak Walton lake. I was nervous this morning for taking such a big role. I didn’t want the power to get to my head and end up being mean or over demanding. Throughout the course of my short seventeen years, I have grown and learned many things. I grew up in a small rural town called Elk Creek. There are no strangers in Elk Creek; people sleep with their doors unlocked and their windows open. Everyone who has grown up in a small town can agree that friendship and community become a second nature trait. Although I have copious amounts of love and respect for where I grew up; I believe that I do not belong there.…

Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

When my father was young, his father had bought him and his siblings an orange plastic play boat to use at the family cottage. It had ore holders and a rope on the front in order for someone to drag it behind them in the shallow parts or to tie to the steps that lead into the cold waters of Lake St. Clair. My father loved that orange boat and he and his five siblings claimed that I was unsinkable. It lasted the wear and tear of burning hot summers with crazy thunderstorms and through freezing lake winters in the shed with whimsical blizzards. It has even lasted through me, my sisters, and my cousins.…

The next morning, Mercy surprised Surina by joining her for breakfast on the sunny terrace in the backyard of her cottage. They enjoyed the leisurely meal to the sound of honey bees buzzing around an assortment of flowers in full bloom lining the edges of the garden. Indeed, the fragrance of the rhododendrons, chrysanthemums, foxgloves, roses, and lilies of the valley intermingled to create a unique heavenly perfume. In the past, Surina’s kinetic pace never allowed her enough time for breakfast other than a hasty granola bar before frantically rushing off to the hospital. In contrast, today she luxuriated in a proper full English breakfast.…
