My first experience with art was an obsession with how I could photograph a flower, its beauty shown through my great lack of technique and knowledge of photography. This experience was important because it allowed me to start to see the world through an artist’s eye. With more exploration I moved beyond the flower and began photographing other subjects. What I was photographing was mostly nature, very clichéd imagery. I fell into the trap that many High School students do.

It wasn’t until I started exploring timelapse photography that I was able to find more interesting techniques to make art. My photographic field-work ranged from watching the clouds and stars, to driving down the road, to melting crayons. I created a motorized camera slide to allow movement within a normally stationary timelapse.

Working with them to find ways to visually express their ideas with an innovative solution has become exciting. Each client is a new challenge and is always an opportunity and problem to solve and I am attracted to that.

While enrolled in school and taking art classes, I have had very little time to make my own graphic art. At first this bothered me being in the introductory courses I have felt very constrained to the mediums and concepts we were using in classes. I had reservations about other mediums but they have opened up many other ideas and opportunities for me to explore art. I am already applying many of the things that I have learned in my classes to my work. The principles of design are very helpful in organizing and presenting the my art.

Even though I started to explore art though photography, I have found much more satisfaction through graphic design. I have found a new appreciation for other art forms and I am able to incorporate parts from many forms into graphic

Whether it is poetry, drawing, or painting, I discovered the importance of self-expression. Being driven away from art, due to focusing on my studies at school, I felt deprived of my artistic side and was eager to create anything I could. I had so much to say and so many ideas to share, and finally I was able to be inspired and work with the beauty around me. This is when my love and appreciation for art took over. I would sit on the dock and pour my thoughts into my green leather notebook.…

College is a life changing investment that prepares for life and career. The vast spectrum of knowledge, skills obtained, and experiences from a college degree more than compensates for the monetary cost of tuition. Creating art is my passion; I have always wanted to become a great artist ever since I was a child drawing on my walls and copying pictures from books. I have devoted my life to improving my talents by illustrating my own stories, practicing drawing daily, and challenging myself to earning my own money doing what I love by drawing commissions. Learning how to communicate through illustration is a valuable skill that will live with me for the rest of my life and progressing my artist career.…

Chapter 14 introduces Italian designer AG Fronzoni who has more of a unique approach to modern design. Fronzoni specifically transmits knowledge of design orally and believes in the process of learning by doing. Although both Chapters 9 and 14 revolve around modern design, the topic is studied quite differently with its’ separate beliefs and means towards achieving modern design. However, in both chapters there seems to be a common ground in believing that graphic design may not work alone. Other sectors of society and studies must be considered in order to create a more meaningful and enhancing experience.…

Evaluation - Beneath The Surface My chosen theme for ‘Beneath The Surface’ revolved around Disney, in particular the movies and stories. The majority of Disney movies are based on other stories that are R rated and twisted. Personally I’ve been brought up with Disney movies my entire life so I felt comfortable choosing this topic since I was highly knowledgable of certain characters and their true back stories which they were based upon. For this project I really wanted to illustrate and present the True natures of each disney character and show how different they are from the child friendly characters we see today.…

One art experience I had as a child was when my mother and grandmother took me to a Children's Musuem and I participated in the activity that the other children were completing. The instructor had us stir different neon paint colors on top of a small plate of melted wax. I chose hot pink and bright green for mine. After the wax picked the two colors from me stirring them, we watched the wax dry and then after it cooled, the instructor took our plates and turned them into individualized bracelets.…

By definition, an artist is "a person who creates art." It seems pretty simple, but to me truly being an artist is so much more. Being an artist means creating something that makes somebody feel. Being an artist means forgetting limits and boundaries and letting your imagination flow freely onto the canvas. Being an artist means exploring and expressing yourself and your emotions, whether it be through painting, drawing, or sculpting.…

In 2002, The American Council of the Blind sued the United States Government for discrimination because the size and feel of American banknotes are identical regardless of their face value. The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff in 2008 (The American Council of the Blind v. Paulson). The case struck me when I first heard it, and I am still fascinated by it. It sparked an epiphany in terms of my own creativity; it’s dangerous to follow repetitive routine blindly. I discovered my passion for creative design after graduating from secondary school in Hong Kong, when I took a year off and worked as a visual merchandising trainee at a multi-brand fashion house.…
